Biosafety and Biosecurity Manager
DSO&aposs biocontainment facilities (BSL-2/3/4 laboratories) are critical facilities supporting biodefence R&D and operational requirements for the nation&aposs defence against biological threats. We are recruiting a motivated and technically skilled individual to support the establishment, upgrade and operation of DSO&aposs biocontainment facilities to ensure regulatory readiness of the facilities and to provide our laboratory users with a safe and secure working environment.
In This Role, You Will
- Lead the preparation and review and see to the approval of SOPs covering all aspects of biosafety, biosecurity, laboratory operations and emergency response
- Develop comprehensive risk assessments for laboratory activities, including pathogen handling, equipment use and waste management
- Oversee the management of inventory (pathogen and consumables) and calibration of equipment used in the laboratories
- Plan the requirements and execute the upgrade of current biocontainment facilities to meet long term requirement of the biodefence programme
- Work closely with the construction and commissioning teams, and the maintenance team for the new biocontainment facilities to ensure they meet operational, regulatory and safety requirements
- Lead the development and execution of training plans and competency assessment for laboratory users and facility managers covering biosafety, biosecurity and SOP compliance
- Drive the digitalisation of facility operations
- Manage budgets, timelines and resourcing to achieve certification and operational milestones for new and current biocontainment facilities
Job Requirements
- Degree in microbiology, infectious diseases, biosafety or related field
- At least 5 years experience in biocontainment laboratory operations or commissioning
- Knowledge in biosafety and biosecurity including authority code requirements
- Demonstrated experience in preparation of SOP, risk assessment and biosafety/biosecurity documentation
- Good communication and people skills in managing stakeholders, including contractors, regulatory authorities, laboratory users, and own team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
