Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Underwriter to join our growing Accident & Health team in Singapore.

We are seeking an individual who is intelligent, passionate and who is always striving towards excellence. The successful candidate will display strong written and verbal communication skills, sound analytical skills and have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across all levels and disciplines.

You should be comfortable working closely with actuaries, the Claims team, Operations and underwriters from across the broader team. Strong character is of the utmost importance as are relationship building and negotiation skills. Good data and file management skills are also naturally a requirement of the role.

The successful candidate will be focused on a positive customer experience, while maintaining sound underwriting discipline.

This position is a great fit for an Underwriter looking to expand their responsibilities, marketing capabilities and underwriting knowledge with an experienced and well-regarded unit within a top global insurance company.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Underwrite and service an existing renewal portfolio for the Accident & Health book which includes Group Personal Accident, and Corporate Travel products.
• Create and maintain records both electronically, if required, following established guidelines and processes
• Support end-to-end administration for the Accident & Health book in Asia, including but not limited to working with our Underwriting Technicians to ensure policies are issued on time and completing our pricing models.
• Assist underwriters in data analysis, rating, and account assessment.
• Establish, develop, and expand upon our existing broker and customer relationships in the Singapore market.
• Work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity and focusing on underwriting profit.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• 3+ years of Accident & Health insurance experience in Singapore.
• Fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese preferred.
• Existing broker and customer relationships, or the experience and ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly.
• Strong underwriting acumen.
• Experience and strong understanding of policy wordings.
• Proven customer development experience preferred.
• Strong collaboration skills.
• Strong communication skills including negotiation, communications and presentation experience
• Degree or equivalent education, and/or strong insurance qualifications are preferred.
