Key Responsibilities

  • Establish an independent, externally funded research program in immunology with an emphasis on translational approaches.
  • Conduct cutting-edge research that contributes to ITRP's goals, including vaccine development, antimicrobial resistance, pathogen-host interactions, anti-tumor immunity, immune ageing, and public health interventions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including clinicians, scientists, and other stakeholders to drive impactful research.
  • Mentor and supervise undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in areas related to microbiology or immunology, anchored under the Department of Microbiology & Immunology.
  • Publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research in leading journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Actively participate in ITRP's events, workshops, and outreach activities.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent, with at least three years of postdoctoral experience in microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of research excellence as evidenced by first author original high impact publications.
  • Strong potential to secure competitive external funding.
  • Expertise in translational research methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the graduate level.
  • Experience in mentoring and supervising research trainees.
  • Research experience in neutrophil biology, microbial infection, and sepsis.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and ethical requirements for translational research.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology has distinguished itself in biomedical research and has a broad spectrum of expertise. Research in the Department encompasses very diverse questions and uses a wide variety of approaches, experimental systems, and techniques. Principal Investigators of the Department are internationally recognized for research on immunology, medical virology, bacteriology, parasitology, molecular biology and biotechnology.
