Job Description:

The AI Manager will lead the strategic direction and operational execution of Allen & Gledhill's Artificial Intelligence initiatives. Reporting to the Head or the Deputy Head of Information Services, this role is critical in bridging the gap between innovative AI capabilities and the Firm's legal practice needs. The incumbent will oversee the lifecycle of AI deployments, ensuring ethical compliance, business alignment, and technical excellence across the firm's IT landscape.

This job description will be subject to periodic review and amendment in accordance with the needs of the Firm.

Key responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the firm's AI roadmap, identifying high-value use cases for legal research, contract review, client service automation, and internal process optimization.
• Team Management: Lead and mentor AI engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence.
• Governance & Compliance: Establish and enforce robust AI governance frameworks, including policies on data privacy, algorithmic bias mitigation, cybersecurity, and ethical AI usage, ensuring strict adherence to legal regulations, compliance and industry regulations.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a primary liaison between the IT department, Partners, and various practice groups to translate business needs into technical AI solutions.
• Vendor & Ecosystem Management: Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with third-party AI vendors, LLM providers, and external consultants.
• Infrastructure Oversight: Direct the architecture and oversight of the AI infrastructure, including on-premise and cloud environments and model deployment pipelines.
• Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and operational risks associated with AI deployment, ensuring business continuity and resilience.

Job Requirements:

• Education: Bachelor's, Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT leadership, with at least 2 years specifically in managing AI/ML teams and projects.
• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of Machine Learning (ML), Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Generative AI. Proven track record of moving models from prototype to production.
• Leadership: Strong track record of leading diverse technical teams, managing budgets, and driving strategic initiatives in a complex professional services environment.
• Legal Tech Insight: Prior experience working within or alongside the legal sector is highly desirable; understanding of legal workflows and regulatory constraints is a significant plus.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written), ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders, and strong problem-solving abilities.
