Role SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Active Directory Engineer to plan, design, and execute Active Directory (AD) upgrades and migrations. This role involves assessing existing environments, implementing secure and scalable solutions, and ensuring minimal disruption to business operations while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and execute Active Directory upgrade and migration activities, including detailed timelines and risk mitigation strategies
- Assess existing AD environments (domain controllers, group policies, DNS, security configurations) and identify improvement areas
- Design and implement domain controller lifecycle activities (promotion, demotion, isolation)
- Identify and manage dependencies on legacy systems and ensure smooth transition without business impact
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure compatibility and integration
- Troubleshoot directory services, including synchronization and federation services
- Manage and support DNS, DFS, and Group Policy configurations
- Perform pre-migration testing, validation, and fallback planning
- Ensure compliance with security standards, policies, and best practices
- Provide post-migration support and resolve technical issues
- Develop scripts to automate administrative and migration tasks
- Support incident, change, and problem management processes in line with IT service management practices
- Prepare technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge articles
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members and stakeholders
Skills & Competencies- Strong knowledge of Active Directory architecture and lifecycle management
- Proficiency in Windows Server environments and AD services
- Hands-on experience with DNS, DFS, Group Policy, and directory services troubleshooting
- Experience with AD migration tools (e.g., ADMT, Quest Migration Manager or equivalent)
- Scripting skills (PowerShell) for automation and administration
- Understanding of identity and access management (IAM), authentication, and authorization concepts
- Familiarity with federation services, certificate services, and single sign-on (SSO)
- Knowledge of IT service management processes (incident, change, and problem management)
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
Requirements- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Proven experience in Active Directory administration, migration, and upgrade projects
- Hands-on experience in multi-domain or multi-site AD environments
- Experience in scripting and automation for system administration
- Familiarity with security best practices in enterprise environments
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and supporting enterprise infrastructure
- Ability to manage tasks independently and contribute within a team environment
