VP, International Licensing (Media Publisher)

This is a truly global role with an initial focus on the Japanese market.
Overview
Fortune is seeking a senior, revenue-driven executive to build its International Licensing business from the ground up. This is a foundational, individual contributor role responsible for creating a new revenue vertical through international licensing, under the guidance of executive leadership. The VP, International Licensing, will act as Fortune's primary dealmaker and growth driver globally, originating, negotiating, and launching licensing partnerships with leading publishers and media operators. The initial mandate is Asia, with a strong priority on Japan, followed by selective global expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Revenue Ownership
Own international licensing revenue, with direct accountability for pipeline creation, deal conversion, and long-term growth.
Build Fortune's licensing business from zero to first revenues and beyond, establishing scalable commercial models and repeatable deal structures.
Identify, engage, and close licensing partnerships with top-tier publishers, media groups, and events operators, particularly across Asia and Japan.
Leverage an existing senior-level network to accelerate market entry and secure anchor partners in new regions.
Deal Execution & Commercial Leadership
Lead end-to-end deal execution, including prospecting, valuation, financial modelling, negotiations, and contract close.
Structure and negotiate high-value licensing agreements (minimum guarantees, revenue share, performance milestones, renewals) that maximize lifetime value.
Balance aggressive revenue growth with Fortune's global brand standards and IP protection.
Stakeholder Leadership (Internal & External)
Serve as the single point of ownership for international licensing across internal stakeholders, aligning editorial, events, commercial, legal, and operations teams.
Translate internal capabilities into compelling commercial propositions for external partners.
Act as Fortune's senior representative with publishers, sponsors, and business leaders in new markets.
Manage licensee onboarding and launches, coordinating internal resources to ensure speed, quality, and early revenue traction.
Scale, Optimisation & Growth
Track performance against revenue and growth KPIs; proactively identify upsell, renewal, and market-expansion opportunities.
Refine go-to-market and deal frameworks based on live market feedback and performance data.
Provide executive leadership with clear, data-driven updates on pipeline, revenue outlook, and market opportunity.
Candidate Profile
10-15 years of experience in business development, partnerships, or licensing within global business in media, financial publishing, or event-led media organisations.
Proven revenue generator and builder, with experience launching new markets, licences, or
commercial verticals from scratch.
Strong existing network of publishers and media executives, with hands-on experience in Asia particularly Japanstrongly preferred for the initial focus.
Track record of closing complex, multi-year licensing deals with meaningful revenue impact.
Strong financial and commercial acumen, including evaluation of business plans, revenue forecasts, and minimum guarantee structures.
Comfortable operating as a senior individual contributor, owning outcomes end-to-end while working cross-functionally without formal authority.
Highly entrepreneurial, self-directed, and effective in ambiguous, early-stage environments.
Confident senior-level communicator capable of influencing C-suite stakeholders internally and externally.
Compensation & Work Model
Total Compensation: Up to $250,000 USD, dependent on base location, market benchmarks, and experience.
Annual bonus: Target 25% of base salary, tied directly to revenue performance, signed licences, and successful market launches.
Work model: Hybrid or fully remote, depending on base location and business needs.
Location flexibility: Global role with compensation adjusted to local market norms.
Location & Travel
Flexible global location (London, New York, or Asia).
Significant international travel required, particularly across Asia and Japan, to drive deal-making, launches, and partner relationships.
