Job Description

About Us

SPH Media's mission is to be the trusted source of news and lifestyle content in Singapore and Asia. One of our core purposes is to produce credible, balanced, and objective news and analysis, always with a view to uphold the public good and fostering an informed, engaged citizenry.

We welcome talented individuals to join us and grow a career in a vibrant and collaborative environment built around a culture of respect and inclusivity.

As an employer, we are committed to rewarding our people fairly and developing them in their careers.

About the Role

The Video & Audio Lead is responsible for the strategy, direction and quality of all video and audio output produced by SPH Media's new Content-as-a-Service (CaaS) capability, based within the international-award-winning Content & Solutioning Division.

SPH Media is Singapore's trusted national media organisation, with a long-standing role in shaping public understanding through credible journalism and storytelling. CaaS builds on this trust by supporting public- and regulated-sector organisations with editorially rigorous, audience-focused content delivered across multiple formats.

You'll collaborate closely with the Associate Director, Content-as-a-Service, the Senior Editor and the Art Director to shape how complex ideas are expressed through video and audio from concept through to final delivery. The ability to translate institutional client briefs into compelling narratives that connect with real audiences is key.

While much of the production will be delivered through external partners, the role requires strong hands-on literacy across video and audio production. You should be comfortable stepping into post-production when needed shaping an edit, refining sound, or stress-testing creative decisions both to ensure quality and to collaborate effectively with production houses and freelancers.

This is a 2-year contract position, with renewal possibilities.

What you'll do

Own video and audio strategy and standards:

  • Be accountable for the quality, consistency and effectiveness of all video and audio output under CaaS.
  • Define storytelling approaches, formats and production standards across video and audio.
  • Ensure outputs are editorially sound, audience-appropriate and aligned with CaaS objectives.
  • Ensure content is produced as pitched, on brief, on time, on budget, and to SPH Media editorial and creative standards.
  • Act as final creative sign-off on key video and audio projects.

Translate briefs into compelling screen and audio storytelling:

  • Work with the Senior Editor to shape narratives for video and audio formats.
  • Develop story approaches that make complex institutional material accessible and engaging.
  • Identify the most effective format for each story long-form, short-form, episodic, documentary-style, explainer, animation, podcast or hybrid.
  • Ensure storytelling remains human, clear and purposeful across formats.

Lead commissioning and production direction:

  • Develop clear briefs, treatments and creative frameworks for production partners.
  • Commission and manage external production houses, videographers, editors, animators and audio producers.
  • Direct productions to ensure outputs meet editorial, creative and technical standards.
  • Review cuts, scripts and audio edits with a strong editorial eye.

Bring hands-on production judgement:

  • Apply post-production experience to review and refine edits where required.
  • Shape pacing, structure and storytelling at the edit stage.
  • Apply a strong understanding of sound design, music, animation and motion graphics.

Collaborate on integrated multi-format output:

  • Work closely with the Art Director to ensure visual coherence across still and moving formats.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Editor to maintain narrative consistency across text, video and audio.
  • Ensure video and audio outputs integrate seamlessly into broader content ecosystems.

Build video and audio capability:

  • Establish workflows, templates and best practices for video and audio production.
  • Build and maintain a trusted network of production partners and freelancers.
  • Stay informed on evolving formats, platforms and audience behaviours.

Who we're looking for

You're likely to have:

  • Senior experience in video or multimedia roles within media, production or content environments.
  • Strong storytelling instincts across screen, audio and social formats.
  • Experience commissioning and directing external production partners.
  • Comfort working on documentary, explainer, animation, branded or institutional content.
  • A solid understanding of sound design, animation, motion graphics and mixed-media storytelling.
  • Experience working with government, public-sector or regulated-industry stakeholders.
  • A solid understanding of production processes, budgets and timelines.
  • Comfort working inside an edit suite when needed, without needing to be the primary editor on every project.
  • The judgement to balance creative ambition with practical delivery.

You understand that great video and audio start with story, not equipment.

What this role is not

  • Not a purely technical or post-production role
  • Not a longform-video-only role
  • Not a one-person production team
  • Not a full-time post-producer role

This is a senior storytelling and production leadership role.

Why this role is interesting

You'll shape how important stories are experienced through moving image and sound, backed by a trusted national media organisation and embedded within a high-performing, award-winning division. The role offers space to experiment with format and form from long-form documentary to social hits to audio storytelling while working alongside strong editorial and creative peers on content that matters.

About SPH Media's Content & Solutioning Division

This is where editorial craft meets creative ambition. The division brings together Content Lab, Brand Newsroom and SPH Media's advertising capabilities to produce commissioned work that spans branded storytelling, native content in news environments, video, and integrated campaigns across social, digital, print, audio and out-of-home. The team's work has been recognised internationally by organisations such as The Drum, the Content Marketing Association, the Content Marketing Institute, and WAN-IFRA including multiple wins for public-sector, video and multiformat work. It's a place for people who like ideas, enjoy solving complex briefs, and want to make work that is smart, credible, entertaining, and genuinely impactful.
