Job Description

As we continue to strengthen and scale our High Net Worth (HNW) underwriting franchise, we are focused on building a high‑performing, future‑ready underwriting capability aligned with our ambition to be a leading HNW player in the market. This growth trajectory requires experienced technical leadership to shape underwriting standards, deepen market-relevant expertise, and ensure disciplined, consistent risk decision‑making as volumes and complexity increase. To support this, we are seeking a seasoned HNW underwriting technical lead with strong industry experience to work closely with the Group Head of HNW Underwriting.

This role will provide hands‑on technical leadership, day‑to‑day underwriting guidance, and mentorship to develop a cohesive, high‑performing team, while also leading and contributing to critical, cross‑functional initiatives that strengthen our HNW underwriting and operating model. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in calibrating risk appetite, supporting complex case decisions, embedding best‑in‑class underwriting practices, and driving strategic projects that enhance scalability, governance, and market competitiveness across the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and risk oversight for HNW underwriting, including mentoring underwriters and co signing cases above individual authorities to ensure strong risk selection and disciplined decision making.
  • Underwriting of high sum assured and Ultra HNW cases, partnering closely with reinsurers and distribution teams to deliver technically sound, commercially competitive outcomes.
  • Calibrate, embed, and uphold HNW risk appetite and underwriting standards, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with Group and local governance frameworks.
  • Lead, participate and contribute to strategic projects and cross functional initiatives focused on building best in class HNW underwriting and operating models with other stakeholders on process redesign, system enhancements, AI Underwriting initiatives, and scalability initiatives.
  • Drive collaboration across business units and functional teams to identify capability and process gaps, streamline underwriting guidelines, and enhance end to end HNW underwriting effectiveness.
  • Work along with the Group Head of HNW Underwriting to design and deliver structured technical training programmes for key HNW sales partners, strengthening internal capability and market facing expertise.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, including reinsurers, distribution, actuarial, claims, and operations, to support efficient execution and superior client outcomes.
  • Support the progressive uplift of underwriting authorities within the team, enabling capability development, reducing reliance on manual co signing, and strengthening governance as the HNW portfolio grows.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of underwriting experience, with 8–10 years of proven experience in High Net Worth (HNW) underwriting in Singapore/HK market.
  • Strong technical expertise in HNW products, including familiarity with reinsurance structures and arrangements applicable to high sum assured and Ultra HNW risks.
  • Degree in medical, paramedical, or health sciences.
  • Professional designations (FLMI, FALU) preferred and considered a strong advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and sound underwriting judgement, with the ability to assess complex medical and financial risks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with reinsurers, sales teams, and internal partners.
