Asia-Pacific Credit Department

Asia-Pacific Credit Department (APCD) is responsible for sound quality of credit portfolio through credit review of non-Japanese corporate, non-Japanese financial institutions and sovereign customers as well as transactions with them, monitoring and active management of risk appetite framework in the Asia Pacific region. The countries/areas to cover are Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, India, Australia and other countries in the South-East Asia, South Asia regions and Oceania regions. It also covers various financial products including project finance, real estate loan, and securitization in the whole APAC (ex. Japan) regions.

Your key roles & responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to business performance of APAC region through credit analysis
  • Planning of strategy and projects
  • Support and train junior staff
  • Participate in training programs
  • Perform all the necessary work for reporting or presentations to stakeholders and for dealing with regulatory authorities.
  • Contribute to improvements in operation and collective knowledge
  • Share knowledge and experience
  • Perform any other duties assigned by superiors
  • Taking charge of the corporate clients in South East Asia & Oceania region
  • Assisting your superiors in the accomplishment of the overall duties and responsibilities of the Department at all times, in adherence to the policy and direction of the Department.
  • Performing credit review and analysis on existing and prospective customers as well as other relevant parties, based on credit proposals and other information provided by business promotion departments of offices of the Bank covered by the Asia & Oceania.
  • Making independent, impartial, and useful recommendations on credit proposals and credit-related matters to management of the Department, based on credit review and analysis.
  • Assigning credit ratings to borrowers, guarantors, and other obligors in accordance with the Rating Procedures and other relevant Rules as imposed by the Bank.
  • Performing corporate clients periodical and special credit review and assessment as deemed necessary by the Department (e.g. Close Watch, Self- Assessment, and Strict Management Claims Determination).
  • Gathering credit and related information on customers or related industries, from both internal and external sources (e.g. customers of the corporate clients, buyers and suppliers, public authorities and institutions, credit agencies, and other banks).
  • Visiting customers (offices/factories within the covered sectors, if appropriate) with business promotion departments, whenever necessary, to obtain in-depth and accurate information on customers for the purpose of analysis.
  • To extend constructive guidance for staffs of business promotion departments to improve the deal quality and their analytical skills and to share the Department's credit stance with them
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by superiors.


What you should have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree.
  • At least 9 years of relevant work experience.
  • The ability to work in a team as well as strong verbal and written communication skills are attributes which will help the candidate perform well in this role.
  • Experience working in corporate banking environment will be advantageous.
  • Experience working as relationship manager will be advantageous.
  • Strong understanding and affiliation to Japanese financial industry with relevant network will be advantageous.
  • Business-level proficiency in English and Japanese will be advantageous as the incumbent is expected to read & understand documents as well as respond & communicate in these two languages to our global offices and Head Office in Japan.
