Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Backup Infrastructure Engineer with strong expertise in Veritas NetBackup to manage and support enterprise backup environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with NetBackup (10.x), Data Domain systems, tape libraries, SAN infrastructure, and exposure to cloud backup solutions such as Azure Recovery Services Vault.
This role requires a proactive individual who can ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of backup systems while delivering excellent service and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Backup Administration
- Administer and support Veritas NetBackup Master and Media Servers in enterprise environments
- Manage NetBackup Media Appliances and backup repositories
- Monitor backup jobs, resolve failures, and ensure SLA compliance
Storage & Data Protection
- Configure and maintain Data Domain systems (DD9300, DD9400, DD6900)
- Manage tape backup infrastructure, including IBM TS4300 libraries
- Ensure efficient backup, retention, and recovery processes
Cloud & Hybrid Backup
- Manage and support Azure Recovery Services Vault via the Microsoft Azure Portal
- Support hybrid backup strategies across on-prem and cloud environments
SAN & Infrastructure
- Configure and administer SAN switches (IBM 24/48 port)
- Troubleshoot storage and connectivity issues across SAN environments
Operations & Support
- Troubleshoot complex issues across backup, storage, tape, and SAN environments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to resolve critical incidents
- Follow ITIL processes (Incident, Change, and Problem Management)
- Participate in on-call support and manage escalations effectively
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Generate operational reports and provide insights for service improvement
- Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field
- 5-10 years of experience in backup and storage administration
- Strong hands-on experience with Veritas NetBackup (10.x)
- Experience with Data Domain systems and deduplication technologies
- Knowledge of tape libraries and enterprise backup operations
- Experience working in Unix, Linux, and Windows environments
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Experience managing large-scale enterprise backup environments
- Exposure to Azure backup and disaster recovery services
- Hands-on experience with SAN switch configuration and administration
- Familiarity with scripting and automation for backup processes
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
