Job Title: Underwriter M&A

Division: Specialty Risks

Reports To: As per Beazley's organisation chart

Key Relationships: Brokers, Underwriters, Claims staff, Coverholders, external Clients and Suppliers

Job Summary

To assess and underwrite Warranty & Indemnity (W&I) / M&A insurance solutions across Asia Pacific, within the M&A, Specialty Risks team, and working closely with brokers, law firms, investment banks, private equity clients, and corporates. Play a key part in evaluating M&A deal risks, structuring bespoke insurance solutions, and building strong broker and client relationships in a fast-moving transactional environment All the while maintaining and improving market reputation of the Beazley brand.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting

  • Develop and underwrite a profitable portfolio of W&I / M&A insurance risks across Asia Pacific as part of the M&A, Specialty Risks team in Singapore in collaboration with global colleagues in London, DACH and the US.
  • Review transaction documentation, due diligence and financial analyses to assess risk exposure.
  • Structure tailored policy solutions aligned with the team's underwriting parameters and use underwriting knowledge and experience to win new businesses and retain existing.
  • Manage deal timelines, engage in discussions and collaborating with broker on policy terms, and deliver commercially sensible underwriting decisions under deal time pressure.
  • Monitor premiums, costs and claims ratios at the policy and portfolio level, taking corrective action where needed to ensure long term profitability.
  • Evaluate appropriate risk premium using rating models where applicable, considering risk costs, reinsurance cessions, capital exposure as well as the underwriting and general administration expenses.
  • Comply with Beazley's underwriting control standards for business written through Lloyd's or Beazley's internal MGAs.
  • Collaborate closely with Claims colleagues to ensure consistency on coverage and claims philosophy.

Broker & Client Management

  • Advise, assist and service clients on insurance and risk matters in the context of M&A transactions to ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Building, identifying opportunities to deepen and maintaining good business relationships with brokers across the Asia Pacific region.
  • Foster positive client relationships based on mutual understanding of their needs and Beazley's underwriting approach.
  • Learning and maintain awareness of Beazley's broader product suite and identify opportunities to introduce additional Beazley offerings to clients where relevant.

Portfolio & Market Development

  • Leverage internal and external networking opportunities to support the development of standardised underwriting practices within Beazley.
  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of knowledge and best practices within the M&A and Specialty Risks teams, particularly relating to the Asia Pacific market.
  • Work with peers within M&A and Specialty Risks to maximise business opportunities and profitability within the department. This will include but not be limited to sharing market information, marketing sources and cross selling opportunities.
  • Share and gather knowledge across the Beazley Group to ensure dissemination of best practice and maximise business opportunities and profitability across the Group.
  • Product presentations, marketing materials, business plans and research documents for the M&A account, as required.

Personal Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Corporate M&A experience from a leading law firm, investment bank or accounting firms with knowledge and understanding of how M&A deals are conducted.
  • Preferably with familiarity of how W&I / M&A insurance is placed in M&A transactions.
  • Strong drafting skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure and resolve conflict constructively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to effectively and confidently present to clients and other audiences.
  • Business-level proficiency in spoken and written Japanese or Korean is advantageous.

Education And Qualifications

  • Minimum graduate level education
  • Preference for candidates with a legal qualification
