Responsibilities and duties
- Delivery and collection: Transporting and collecting cargo as instructed, whether it's for local deliveries or long-haul routes.
- Communication: Maintaining constant radio and transport contact with the controller or dispatcher.
- Record-keeping: Keeping accurate records of all transported cargoes and goods.
- Vehicle maintenance: Performing daily checks, cleaning, and general upkeep of the vehicle.
- Loading and unloading: Assisting with the loading and unloading of cargo, sometimes with the help of equipment like a pallet jack.
- Safety compliance: Adhering to all safety regulations, speed limits, and traffic laws, and striving for a safe driving record.
Requirements
- A valid driver's license for the specific vehicle class (e.g., Class 4/4A or Class 3/3A in Singapore for a prime mover).
- A clean driving record.
- The ability to operate heavy vehicles confidently and safely.
- Additional specialized training may be required for certain types of cargo, such as hazardous materials.
