Trading Manager

We are supporting a senior leadership hire within a global commodities platform focused on building out its lithium trading franchise. This role sits at the intersection of derivatives, structured trading, and physical markets, and will appeal to candidates from financial institutions or trading desks looking to expand into a broader commercial mandate.

What you will be doing:

You will take ownership of the lithium trading function, overseeing both physical (including spodumene) and derivatives trading activities, while ensuring strong commercial performance and adherence to risk and compliance frameworks.

A key part of the role will be to lead and develop the lithium team, driving day-to-day trading activities, setting direction, and ensuring alignment with broader organisational objectives. You will also:

• Work closely with internal teams including operations, freight, legal, and product control to ensure smooth trade execution
• Develop and implement trading strategies and playbooks, covering both short- and long-term market approaches
• Drive business development efforts, identifying new suppliers, counterparties, and structured trading opportunities
• Oversee and manage risk exposure and hedge book activities, ensuring compliance with internal policies and exchange regulations
• Monitor counterparties and market movements, proactively managing credit, market, and operational risks
• Lead budgeting and planning processes, including developing business strategies and aligning with global teams
• Build and enhance market intelligence capabilities, including supply-demand analysis, pricing trends, and market insights
• Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including industry participants, financial institutions, and partners

What we are looking for:

You should have at least 15 years of experience in commodities trading or sales, with exposure to metals or related markets, and a strong understanding of both physical and derivatives trading. We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience in a trading or commercial role, with exposure to derivatives and structured transactions
• Has a proven ability to lead and develop teams
• Demonstrates strong understanding of risk management, hedging strategies, and exposure control
• Is analytical and commercially driven, with solid financial and numerical capabilities
• Has the ability to build and maintain strong industry relationships
• Is detail-oriented, proactive, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
• Is comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders across global teams
