SENIOR MANAGER, LITHIUM TRADING
Job Summary:
This position will report to the General Manager, Business Development Department.
The individual will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of lithium trading, including physical spodumene trading, derivative transactions, and business development initiatives.
This role requires fostering effective communication among team members and key stakeholders-including Headquarters, the investment team, and regional offices-while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. The individual will work closely with both internal and external teams to drive strategic goals and ensure full compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, exchange rules (CME, GFEX, OTC), and ethical standards.
Other responsibilities include overseeing team budget updates, managing day-to-day
operations of the Lithium team. Lead, manage, and motivate team members to deliver high-quality performance and results aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Lithium Trading and Team management (50%)
Oversee Lithium team to execute both derivatives and physical Lithium trades.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as trade operations, freight, legal, trade and product control, etc.
Develop and implement sales policy to enhance team's engagement.
Prevent compliance breaches and mitigate risks including preventing corruption.
Facilitate communication with senior management and external stakeholders
Create and update a trading playbook together with the team, for both short and long- term strategies.
Build and develop team members capabilities through active participation in trading activities.
Business Development (10%)
Assess, identify and develop businesses with new suppliers, counterparties and business models such as structured trades, and supply chain development.
Budget and Reporting (10%)
Formulate business strategies and prepare divisional budgets.
Align global strategies through collaboration with colleagues from the investment and regional teams
Strategy and Planning (10%)
Develop comprehensive business plans for lithium trading
Partner with corporate teams to enhance infrastructure for the business, such as policy and procedures, systems and management dashboards
Continuously improve team strategy and development roadmap
Risk Management (10%)
Monitor counterparties performance, mitigates risks and manages the book's exposure to relevant counterparties and regions.
Ensures the division's exposure is within approved limits.
Manage the hedge book operations, ensure compliance with processes and procedures are complied with, data entry, P&L changes and exposure changes are updated and checked on daily basis
Anticipate potential changes in exposure, such as counterparty performance risk, pricing exposure changes due to logistical delays, and devise the best plan to
manage this effectively
Market Intelligence (10%)
Leading the team to build long term relationships with industry players through trading, including physical users, traders, PRAs banks and other consultants
Develop market research capabilities, including supply and demand databases and forecasts to assist decision making in trading
Leading the team to produce regular reports and updates on market trends and relevant issues
Qualifications:
Bachelor's / Master's Degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline
Minimum 15 years of experience in physical metals, metal derivatives, or commodities/futures trading or sales, preferably in metals such as aluminum, copper, or iron ore
At least 3 years of proven experience leading and managing high-performing teams
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong industry networks
Strong tactical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Solid understanding of risk management principles and tools, with the ability to identify, anticipate, and mitigate credit and market risks
High proficiency in financial modeling and numerical analysis, with a good understanding of options and derivatives markets
Strong compliance mindset and adherence to regulatory standards
Business-level proficiency in both English and Mandarin (spoken and written) to support interactions with Chinese counterparties
Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas effectively to senior management
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and driven to achieve results
