Overall Job Description
The Supervisor (Tooling) oversees the daily operations of the fabrication toolroom department. The role is responsible for planning, designing, building, and maintaining tools, fixtures, and molds used inmachining, fabrication, and assembly processes. This position ensures that all tooling meets required specifications, quality standards, and production needs.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Supervise and lead fabrication toolroom staff, including machinists, tooling specialists, and technicians.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and prioritize fabrication projects and tooling requirements tosupport production demands.
- Oversee the design, construction, modification, and testing of custom tools, fixtures, and molds.
- Ensure all tooling meets specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
- Manage toolroom inventory, maintenance, calibration, and repair of tools, molds, and equipment.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality Assurance departments to ensure toolingsupports operational requirements.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and drive continuous improvement initiatives withinthe toolroom.
- Develop and maintain proper documentation, including tool designs, drawings, maintenancerecords, and job instructions.
- Train, guide, and develop staff to enhance technical capability and job performance.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and quality control measures in the toolroom.
- Perform overall quality control of ongoing projects (budget, schedule, plans, and teamperformance) and provide regular status reports to management.
Requirements
Strong technical knowledge in tooling, molds, and machine maintenance.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and tooling design specifications.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) tools, including SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Familiarity with plastic injection molding processes and automotive industry standards.
Basic computer literacy, including MS Office, email, and documentation systems.
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a team-oriented mindset.
