Position: Test Manager
Experience: 1015 years in IT testing, with at least 58 years in Test Management within Banking or Financial Services
Key Responsibilities
Test Strategy & Governance
- Define and own the overall test strategy aligned to programme objectives, bank standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Establish test governance frameworks, quality gates, entry/exit criteria, and reporting standards.
- Ensure compliance with bank SDLC, risk, audit, and regulatory requirements (e.g. MAS, internal audits).
Test Planning & Management
- Develop and manage master test plans, phase-wise test plans (SIT, UAT, Regression, Performance, DR).
- Estimate testing effort, manage test budgets, schedules, and resource planning.
- Oversee multi-vendor and onshore/offshore test teams, including functional, automation, and performance testing.
Test Execution & Quality Assurance
- Ensure timely and high-quality execution of:
- System Integration Testing (SIT)
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Regression Testing
- Performance & Stress Testing
- Security & DR testing (where applicable)
- Drive defect management, triage, root-cause analysis, and resolution with development and infrastructure teams.
- Enforce risk-based testing to prioritize high-impact banking functions.
Stakeholder & Client Management
- Act as the primary testing contact for business users, IT teams, vendors, and senior management.
- Present test status, risks, and quality metrics to steering committees and programme leadership.
- Manage expectations and provide clear recommendations on go-live readiness.
Process Improvement & Automation
- Drive continuous improvement in testing processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Promote and govern test automation strategies to improve coverage and efficiency.
- Ensure proper use of test management and defect tracking tools (e.g. JIRA, ALM, Azure DevOps).
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Bitbucket)
People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop Test Managers, Test Leads, and QA teams.
- Set performance goals, conduct reviews, and ensure team capability uplift.
Required Skills & Experience
Functional & Domain
- Strong experience in banking domains such as:
- Core Banking (Retail / Corporate)
- Payments (SWIFT, FAST, GIRO, RTGS)
- Solid understanding of banking regulations, risk controls, and audit requirements.
Technical & Testing Skills
- Expertise in end-to-end testing lifecycle management.
- Hands-on knowledge of:
- Test Management Tools (HP ALM, JIRA, Azure DevOps)
- Automation tools (e.g. Selenium, UFT governance level)
- End-to-end automation frameworks for web and API testing using Playwright (TypeScript) and Karate (Java)
- Performance testing tools (e.g. LoadRunner, JMeter governance level)
- Experience testing complex system integrations (APIs, middleware, batch processing).
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Proven ability to manage large test teams (30100+ resources).
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
- Strong risk mindset, problem-solving ability, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, regulated banking environments.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
- Certifications preferred:
- ISTQB Advanced / Test Manager
- PMP / Prince2 / Agile certifications
- Banking or Risk-related certifications (advantage)
Nice to Have
- Experience in core banking replacement or modernization programmes.
- Exposure to AI-generated test cases and large-scale test data management.
- Experience working with Singapore banks or regional banking programmes.
