Job Summary

Altair is looking for candidates with a passion for Systems Engineering to join our Enterprise Computing support team. In their new role, a successful candidate will be working with customers running some of the most powerful super computer clusters in the world today. You would be working with and debugging state of the art High Performance Computing software, Cloud Computing, and the software to configure and manage these large clusters.

As part of this team, you will be responsible for root cause analysis (including performance and core file analysis) and escalation management for client issues. This includes assisting the L1 Support teams in diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to Altair HPCWorks software. And, you will be responsible to assist in maintaining documentation, both internal and customer facing, enabling us to evolve and share what we know with Altair, and our customers. This role requires you to equip yourself with multi-disciplinary skills starting from hardware subsystems to complete software stack that operates the HPC systems.

Basics

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science related field is required.
  • Team player with the ability to work and communicate effectively across multiple departments and levels of management
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly when tackling unfamiliar tasks and requests
  • Working Knowledge of Altair's High-Performance Computing suite of products preferred

Preferred


  • Experience in HPC system administration and issue tracking
  • Minimum Education or Certification: bachelor's or master's degree related to IT
  • Expertise in networking, filesystems and parallel filesystems
  • Expertise in scripting languages, specifically Unix/Linux shells.
  • Experience in programming languages and concepts (C/C++, golang, Python).
  • Experience working with High Performance Computing Workload Managers (PBS Pro, Grid Engine, LSF, SLURM, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the use of debugging tools (such as gdb, valgrind, and gstack).
  • Knowledge of common networking protocols (TCP, UDP, etc).
  • Knowledge of common, industry standard, security tools and practices (SSH, OpenSSL, SELinux, AppArmor, firewalls).
  • Knowledge of Certificates and Certificate Authorities is helpful.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and desire for learning new technologies and tools.
  • Must have outstanding problem-solving skills
  • Self-Starter The ability to actively look for effective tasks to complete during quieter periods.
  • Availability for occasional travel.
  • Prioritization Skills The ability to analyze support requests and prioritize them based on impact.
  • Discipline The discipline to actively manage support requests and overhead tasks, without getting distracted by email, chat or other ad-hoc communication
  • A Teacher Able to teach end users about IT technologies or solutions to their issues in an easy to understand way
