Job Purpose:
The Technical Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance of the vessel fleet in compliance with Class, Flag, and QHSE regulations. This role oversees technical budgets, maintenance strategies, fleet integrity, and team leadership, driving continuous improvement to maximize vessel uptime and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance Strategy & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and monitor the BOA Maintenance Policy in accordance with Class, Flag, and statutory regulations.
- Ensure all vessels comply with ISM, ISPS, and maritime safety standards.
- Lead planned maintenance systems (PMS) and optimize schedules to minimize downtime.
2. Budget & Cost Management
- Define, control, and report on OPEX & CAPEX budgets for technical operations.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or performance.
- Approve technical purchases, dry-docking budgets, and repair contracts.
3. Fleet Integrity & Inspections
- Implement and oversee the BOA Fleet Integrity Policy, ensuring vessels meet technical and safety standards.
- Manage Management Inspection Vessel (MIV) operations, including audits and condition assessments.
- Coordinate Class surveys, dry-dockings, and major repairs to ensure timely completion.
4. Team Leadership & Department Management
- Lead the Technical Department, including Maintenance Teams, Field Service Engineers, and Superintendents.
- Foster a safety-first culture, ensuring adherence to QHSE policies.
- Mentor and develop technical staff, ensuring competency and performance standards.
5. Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Provide detailed technical reports on defects, incidents, maintenance performance, and KPIs.
- Analyze failure trends and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Drive innovation in maintenance practices (predictive maintenance, digital tools, AI-driven diagnostics).
6. Emergency & Risk Management
- Act as a key point of contact for technical emergencies (breakdowns, major repairs).
- Develop contingency plans for critical equipment failures.
