TCG Market Research Consultant

We are seeking a Market Research Consultant with deep expertise in Trading Card Games (TCGs) to lead a comprehensive study of the high-value trading card market. This role will focus primarily on Pokmon and One Piece, with an emphasis on understanding cards as collectible assets within a rapidly evolving secondary market.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical ability with hands-on experience in the TCG ecosystem. You will help identify buy, sell, and hold indicators, establish authentication best practices, and analyze emerging trends shaping the 2026 collectibles market.

Key Responsibilities

Market Research & Forecasting

Analyze historical and current sales data from leading marketplaces such as eBay, TCGPlayer, and Card Kingdom to identify pricing trends, seasonal fluctuations, and volatility patterns across both vintage and modern card sets.

Authentication Standards Development

Develop a standardized internal framework for card authentication, including technical verification methods such as:

• Light and transparency testing
• Rosette pattern analysis under magnification
• Cardstock core verification (e.g., identifying the layered blue/black line structure)
• Holographic pattern differences across various print eras

Grading & Market Impact Analysis

• Monitor the influence of professional grading on card liquidity and valuation. Assess grading ROI across different card tiers through companies such as Professional Sports Authenticator, Beckett Grading Services, and Certified Guaranty Company.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of active involvement in the TCG secondary market, either professionally or as a serious collector/trader
• Strong understanding of card authentication techniques and print characteristics
• Exceptional attention to detail, including recognition of printing variations, font spacing, ink patterns, and surface texture
• Ability to communicate market insights clearly to stakeholders without a TCG background

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Japanese-exclusive releases and their influence on international pricing
• Familiarity with the graded card (slab) ecosystem
• Experience with high-volume submissions, professional grading, or consignment operations
• Awareness of how digital platforms such as Pokmon TCG Live influence physical card demand
