Job Description

Key Responsibilities

System Architecture

Define system architecture for photonics test platforms and develop test methodologies for devices such as optical I/O components, modulators, photodetectors, ring resonators, and interferometers.

Develop optical link budgets, perform system simulations, and allocate performance requirements across subsystems including lasers, modulators, detectors, drivers, and DSP.

Conduct trade-off analysis across performance, cost, and manufacturability, and support parallel testing strategies for high-volume manufacturing.

Optical & Photonics Collaboration

  • Guide silicon photonics PIC design (e.g., waveguides, MZI, ring resonators, grating couplers) and review device models and simulation results with optical design teams.

  • Evaluate optical coupling approaches including grating couplers, edge coupling, fibre-array coupling, and free-space probing while optimizing alignment tolerance, insertion loss, and test stability.

System Integration & Validation

  • Collaborate with electrical engineering teams on high-speed driver and TIA integration, while addressing system considerations such as EMI, thermal management, and packaging constraints.

  • Define wafer-level and module-level test strategies, characterization plans, and support yield improvement and design-for-manufacturing initiatives.

Software & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with software teams to support automation frameworks, test sequencing, data acquisition, and tester integration within the equipment system.

  • Collaborate with foundries, IDMs, OSAT partners, packaging vendors, and customers on system integration and technical roadmap discussions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, Manufacturing, or related field).

  • At least 5 years of experience in semiconductor, photonics, or precision equipment design.

  • Experience with precision motion systems such as fibre-array alignment or probe station systems and understanding of optical alignment constraints.

  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment environments and cleanroom standards.

Preferred Skills

Experience with silicon photonics or optical systems and familiarity with engineering tools such as Creo, LabVIEW, GD&T, ANSYS, EPLAN, or MATLAB would be an advantage.
