Sybase Migration Specialist

Responsibilities

1. Lead migration of legacy applications from Sybase to modern platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, or cloud-based databases).
2. Analyse existing PowerBuilder applications and Sybase database structures to define migration strategy and scope.
3. Refactor, optimise, and modernise PowerBuilder code to ensure compatibility with target systems.
4. Perform database schema conversion, data mapping, and data migration with minimal disruption to operations.
5. Troubleshoot and resolve issues arising during migration, including performance bottlenecks and data inconsistencies.
6. Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to validate functional requirements post-migration.
7. Develop and execute unit, system, and user acceptance testing (UAT) plans for migrated applications.
8. Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance throughout the migration lifecycle.
9. Document technical designs, migration processes, and post-migration support procedures.
10. Provide post-migration support, enhancements, and continuous improvement of applications.

Requirements

1. Diploma/Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
2. Minimum 5 years of experience in PowerBuilder development with strong exposure to Sybase databases.
3. Proven experience in system migration projects (Sybase to SQL Server/Oracle or similar).
4. Strong knowledge of SQL, stored procedures, database design, and performance tuning.
5. Ability to work independently and manage end-to-end migration activities with strong problem-solving skills.
