Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Management:

  • Plan and schedule daily delivery routes and collection assignments for drivers to maximize efficiency and meet tight deadlines.
  • Allocate appropriate vehicles and resources (e.g., lorries, vans, prime movers, trailers) based on cargo size, type, and destination.
  • Monitor real-time progress of all vehicles using GPS tracking systems.
  • Handle urgent ad-hoc requests and troubleshoot operational issues as they arise (e.g., vehicle breakdowns, traffic delays, last-minute order changes).

2. Team Leadership & Administration:

  • Supervise, coach, and motivate a team of drivers and assistant helpers.
  • Manage driver attendance, schedules, shift rotations, and overtime.
  • Conduct regular team briefings on safety, performance, and daily operational goals.
  • Perform annual performance reviews and identify training needs for the team.

3. Safety & Compliance (Critical in Singapore):

  • Enforce strict adherence to all Land Transport Authority (LTA) regulations, including permitted weights, vehicle dimensions, and road traffic laws.
  • Ensure drivers possess valid and appropriate driving licenses (e.g., Class 4 for heavy goods vehicles).
  • Champion workplace safety and health (WSH) standards, conducting regular safety meetings and toolbox briefings.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, ensuring all vehicles undergo mandatory periodic inspections and are repaired promptly.
  • Manage the application and validity of required permits (e.g., parking, off-peak driving, Certis CISCO access passes for secure areas).
  • Ensure all cargo is properly secured and that drivers are trained in handling different types of goods (e.g., hazardous materials, chilled products).

4. Customer Service & Communication:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers in the field, providing support and instructions.
  • Liaise with customers, warehouse managers, and customer service teams to provide updates and resolve any delivery issues.
  • Handle and document customer feedback and complaints professionally, implementing corrective actions.

5. Administrative Duties:

  • Review and verify drivers logbooks, trip sheets, and fuel consumption reports.
  • Prepare and submit daily/weekly operational reports to the Transport or Logistics Manager.
  • Manage petty cash for tolls, parking, and other incidentals (e.g., ERP charges).
  • Assist in budgeting and controlling operational costs like fuel, maintenance, and overtime.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a transport or logistics operations role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Proven experience managing a fleet of commercial vehicles in Singapore is highly advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of Singapore's road network, including key industrial areas, port (PSA), and airport logistics parks.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of Singapore's LTA regulations for goods vehicles, including the Road Traffic Act.
  • Familiarity with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Act and best practices for transport operations.
  • Strong planning and routing skills, often using software or GPS tracking platforms.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to manage a diverse team.
  • Proficient problem-solving and decision-making abilities under pressure.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and transport management systems (TMS).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: GCE N/O Levels or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Valid Singapore Class 3 driving license is mandatory. Possession of a Class 4 license is a significant advantage.
