Structural Steel Erector - Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Read and interpret structural drawings, blueprints, and erection plans

• Unload, sort, and position steel components (beams, columns, braces, trusses)

• Rig, hoist, and align structural steel members using cranes, slings, chains, and cables

• Bolt, weld, and secure steel structures according to engineering specifications

• Ensure steel members are level, plumb, and properly aligned

• Install metal decking, stairs, handrails, and miscellaneous steel

• Perform field welding and cutting using oxy-fuel, plasma, or arc welding equipment

• Inspect steel connections for accuracy, strength, and safety compliance

• Follow site safety rules, OSHA regulations, and company safety procedures

• Use power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently

• Work at heights using harnesses, lifts, and scaffolding

• Coordinate with crane operators, supervisors, and other trades

• Identify and report structural defects or misalignments

• Assist in temporary bracing and stabilization of structures

• Maintain a clean and safe worksite

• Perform basic equipment maintenance and report malfunctions
