Job Summary
A General Storekeeper manages materials, tools, and inventory in construction or industrial settings to support site operations efficiently and maintain accurate stock control.
Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials against delivery or purchase orders to ensure accuracy
- Record all stock movements in store ledger or inventory system to maintain up-to-date inventory data
- Maintain accurate stock levels and ensure proper storage conditions to preserve material quality
- Issue materials, tools, and equipment to site staff based on approved requisitions with proper documentation
- Organize and maintain a clean, safe, and orderly store or warehouse environment
- Conduct regular stock counts (weekly, monthly, annual) to verify inventory accuracy
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or excess stock to support replenishment planning
- Assist in procurement requests by providing accurate stock information
- Handle and store construction materials (cement, steel, chemicals) properly to prevent damage or loss
- Apply FIFO (First-In First-Out) system to manage stock rotation effectively
- Maintain store records, delivery notes, and inventory registers for accurate documentation
- Prepare stock reports for management review to support decision-making
- Assist auditors during stock audits by providing required documentation and information
- Liaise with site engineers, procurement teams, and suppliers to coordinate material deliveries
- Coordinate with logistics teams for unloading and storage arrangements to ensure smooth operations
Required competencies and certifications
- Physically fit to handle materials as required
- Able to read delivery orders, material specifications, and basic drawings
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Minimum secondary education
- Experience in storekeeping, preferably in construction or engineering projects
- Basic knowledge of inventory systems (manual or software-based)
Other Information
- Work environment may be site-based or warehouse-based
- May require outdoor work at construction sites
- May involve shift work or extended hours depending on project needs
