Storage Backup Administrator

Job Description

. We are seeking a skilled and proactive Backup Administrator to take ownership of our enterprise backup infrastructure.

. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management, maintenance, and optimization of backup technologies across hybrid environments.

. You will ensure data protection, availability, and recoverability through rigorous monitoring, troubleshooting, and process adherence-safeguarding business continuity across on-premise and virtualized infrastructures.

. This role requires deep technical expertise in backup tools, storage management, and recovery operations, combined with a methodical approach to incident resolution and vendor coordination.

Key Responsibilities

. VMware & Hypervisor Administration Perform day-to-day VMware administration and maintenance Manage and maintain hypervisor environments to ensure optimal performance and availability

. Backup Technology Management Oversee the management of enterprise backup technologies including TSM, HP-DP, and NetBackup Perform installation, configuration, and upgrades of backup tools and client software Install and configure backup agents for: TDP for Oracle TDP for SQL TDP for Exchange

. Library & Storage Management Manage ATL (Automated Tape Library) and VTL (Virtual Tape Library) systems Perform storage pool management to optimize resource utilization Maintain scratch tape levels as required and manage space reclamation Manually clean drives as needed to ensure hardware reliability

. Monitoring & Troubleshooting Conduct proactive monitoring of: Backup tools (TSM, HP-DP, NetBackup) Libraries and backup infrastructure Troubleshoot and resolve backup failures, library issues, and infrastructure incidents Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement preventive measures

. Policy & Inventory Management Manage backup policies, schedules, and retention periods Oversee backup inventory management and media management Add and delete backup clients on TSM, HP-DP, and NetBackup as per published procedures Conduct periodic media and backup audits to ensure compliance and data integrity

. Restore & Recovery Operations Fulfill restore requests in a timely and accurate manner Conduct periodic restoration tests to validate recoverability Support DR (Disaster Recovery) planning and management Ensure readiness for business continuity and failover scenarios

. Reporting & Capacity Management Generate daily, weekly, and monthly backup reports as per client requirements Perform capacity management and forecasting for backup infrastructure Conduct performance tuning to optimize backup windows and success rates

. License & Vendor Management Manage software licensing for backup tools and agents Coordinate with hardware and software vendors for support, maintenance, and procurement Manage tape vaulting processes for off-site storage and compliance

. Ticket & Process Management Handle ticket management within defined SLAs (Service Level Agreements) Follow established procedures for client onboarding, changes, and decommissioning Ensure all activities are documented and traceable within IT service management tools

Required Skills & Qualifications

. Technical Expertise:: 3-6 years of hands-on experience in backup administration across enterprise environments

. Strong proficiency with TSM (IBM Spectrum Protect), HP Data Protector (HP-DP), and Veritas NetBackup

. Solid understanding of VMware administration and hypervisor maintenance

. Experience with ATL and VTL library management

. Hands-on experience with backup agents (TDP for Oracle, SQL, Exchange)

. Familiarity with storage pools, media management, and tape operations

. Working knowledge of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux/Unix)

. Understanding of networking concepts relevant to backup infrastructure

. Process & Compliance Experience with ticket management and SLA adherence

. Knowledge of DR planning, backup auditing, and restore testing

. Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management) is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

. Experience with cloud-based backup solutions (AWS Backup, Azure Backup, etc.)

. Knowledge of tape vaulting and off-site media management

. Experience with performance tuning of backup infrastructure

. Familiarity with automation scripts (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for backup tasks

. Certifications such as VMware VCP, IBM TSM, or Veritas NetBackup

. Understanding of security best practices for data protection
