The Role

As our Staff Mobile Engineer, you'll lead the evolution of our mobile platform - architecting, building, and shipping the iOS and Android apps. You'll be both a technical authority and hands-on developer, owning critical decisions around framework, architecture, and quality while remaining deeply involved in the technical details.

This is not a management position. You'll lead through technical excellence, mentorship, and peer influence rather than direct reports. You'll set the technical direction for mobile, design systems that scale with our user base, and ensure our apps deliver the performance and reliability our users expect.

What You'll Own

. Architect Flutter mobile platform for iOS/Android scalability

. Build core features such as GPS tracking, reservation, real-time maps, payments, notifications

. Set mobile technical standards: code quality, testing, performance, observability

. Debug production issues and optimize battery/network performance

. Design real-time architecture (WebSockets, state sync, offline-first)

. Lead code reviews and mentor other mobile engineers

. Define CI/CD pipelines and App Store release automation

. Work hand-in-hand with backend engineers on API contracts and real-time protocols

. Partner with product and design teams to translate vision into technical solutions

. Pay down technical debt with clear ROI analysis

. Evaluate new tools, libraries, and techniques to optimize the product

What You Bring

. 8+ years of experience in mobile development 3+ years hands-on with cross-platform mobile development at scale

. Deep expertise in Flutter (or React Native with proven ability to ramp on Flutter quickly)

. Experience with real-time systems (WebSockets, Firebase, location services, push notifications)

. Experience with payment gateway integrations (Stripe, PayPal, local payment methods)

. Experience with map integrations (Google Maps, Apple Maps, Mapbox)

. Experience with API design and 3rd party system integrations: REST/GraphQL, auth (OAuth/JWT)

. Experience with using feature flags for safe rollouts and A/B testing

. Experience with complex state management at scale

. Experience with performance profiling tools (Android Profiler, Xcode Instruments, Firebase Performance Monitoring)

. Experience building test strategies across unit, integration, and E2E tests following the test pyramid model

. Experience in performance optimization: startup time, memory, battery, app rendering

. Strong iOS (Swift) & Android (Kotlin) fundamentals for native modules

. Good knowledge of observability, error handling & mobile analytics

. Great systems thinking and be able to design mobile architecture for exponential user growth

. Clear technical communicator writes documents others understand years later

. Ride-sharing, delivery, or real-time mapping app experience

. Open source contributions or personal projects demonstrating technical depth

. Experience mentoring mobile engineers
