About Our Group

Material Science Lab is part of the Research and Development facilities located in Shugart building to support all HDD and some non-HDD material related selection, qualification, failure analysis, etc. The function of the lab includes performing components level material, proactive qualification for new products and performing drive failure analysis to improve the drives quality and robustness. We work closely with multiple cross-sites, cross-functional team regularly.

About The Role - You Will

  • Conduct research and development in organic/inorganic chemistry to enhance the performance and reliability of hard disc drives.
  • Study new materials performance under extreme test environment / conditions for use in hard disc drive.
  • Study interaction effects of new material/component on a system-level (drive) to improve compatibility and performance.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in organic/inorganic chemistry and data storage technology to drive innovation.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications to communicate research findings and progress.
  • Develop solutions to technical problems through the application of materials science and engineering principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Work on problems of diverse scopes where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Demonstrates good judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Requires post-doctoral or equivalent industry research experience with demonstrated ability to lead technical investigations.
  • This job is career-oriented, journey-level position, expected to operate independently on most assignments with minimal day-to-day supervision.

Your Experience Includes

  • PhD in Organic Chemistry or Chemistry or Material Science or related field.
  • Strong background in the synthesis and characterization of organic materials.
  • Proven track record of research excellence, demonstrated through publications and patents.

You Might Also Have

  • Experience in Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS), GC/Q-TOF, GCxGC, ToF-SIMS interpretation, Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectrometer (FTIR), Raman and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) / Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis will be an advantage.
