Job Description
Assessment and Evaluation
. Assist in conducting speech and language evaluations under supervision.
. Collect and document case history and background information from families and caregivers.
. Use informal and formal assessment tools to identify communication needs.
Intervention and Therapy
. Implement individualized speech and language therapy plans designed by senior therapists.
. Facilitate sessions focusing on speech production, language comprehension, and social communication.
. Support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods, as needed.
. Monitor and document progress to inform treatment adjustments.
Family and Caregiver Engagement
. Collaborate with families to demonstrate strategies for improving communication at home.
. Provide feedback on therapy progress and encourage family participation.
Team Collaboration
. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and educators.
. Attend team meetings to discuss client progress and coordinate services.
. Seek guidance and mentorship from senior therapists and team members.
Program Support and Development
. Assist in the preparation of materials and resources for therapy sessions.
. Participate in group sessions or workshops aimed at enhancing social communication skills.
. Contribute ideas to improve therapy approaches or group interventions.
Documentation and Reporting
. Maintain accurate and timely records of therapy sessions, assessments, and client progress.
. Contribute to reports for internal use and family communication.
Professional Development
. Engage in training and learning opportunities provided by the organisation.
. Stay informed on evidence-based practices and developments in ASD intervention.
. Actively seek feedback to refine skills and grow professionally.
Job Requirement
. Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related field.
. Eligible for registration with AHPC
. Foundational knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related communication challenges.
. Basic understanding of AAC tools and techniques.
. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
. Patience, empathy, and a desire to work with individuals with special needs.
. Willingness to learn and adapt to feedback.
. Previous experience (internships or practicum) working with individuals with ASD is a plus but not required.
