ROLE
The Specialist Teacher (Physical Education) is responsible for developing and delivering physical education programs that promote physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, and the overall well-being of students. The role focuses on building fundamental motor skills, promoting physical literacy, fostering healthy habits, and supporting the overall wellbeing of students in alignment with the school's mission.
As part of their role, the Teacher will also be expected to coach sports teams, attend sporting events, lead extracurricular activities and contribute actively to school events, student development, and the wider school community.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, deliver, and assess age-appropriate PE lessons aligned with the School's curriculum framework and standards.
- Implement inclusive practices that support diverse learners, including students with varying levels of physical ability.
- Use formative and summative assessments to track skill progression and overall development.
- Integrate health education concepts such as nutrition, safety, hygiene, and personal wellbeing.
- Contribute to the development, review, and refinement of the PE curriculum across Lower Elementary.
- Ensure lesson planning includes differentiation, scaffolding, and child-safe practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation including unit plans, skill rubrics, and assessment records.
- Coach and oversee at least one sports team and/or activity group each term (examples: mini-basketball, athletics, football/soccer, rackets, general fitness).
- Plan and supervise after-school sessions, ensuring safety, engagement, and skill development.
- Lead or support the organization of internal/external sports events, tournaments, Sports Day, and inter-school fixtures.
- Provide ongoing feedback to students, encourage good sportsmanship, and model positive behavior.
- Maintain communication with parents regarding student progress, achievements, and concerns.
- Prepare progress reports and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings, professional development sessions, and whole-school events.
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, learning support teams, and other specialists.
- Regularly inspect, clean, and maintain gym equipment, sports gear, and physical education facilities to ensure they are safe and in good working condition.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies and sports equipment and ensure it is properly stored when not in use.
- Promote and encourage the importance of physical fitness and health within the school community through information sharing, events, or parent workshops.
- Uphold the School's safeguarding, child protection, and health & safety policies.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Human Movement, or related discipline.
- Recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed., Diploma in Education).
- Minimum 2-3 years of teaching experience at Elementary level, preferably in an international school setting.
- Experience coaching young children in structured sports activities.
- Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate physical-skills progression.
- A familiarity with an inquiry-based learning approach is an advantage.
- Positive, energetic, and student-centered teaching style.
- Excellent classroom management and organization.
- Ability to adapt lessons for diverse learners and abilities.
