We're seeking a Special Process Engineer to develop, implement, and optimize heat treatment and plating processes for aerospace metal components. The role involves designing heat treat cycles and plating methods, monitoring process performance, and troubleshooting issues related to hardness, distortion, adhesion, and surface finish. You will work closely with production, quality, and R&D teams to ensure compliance with AMS, ASTM, ISO, and customer standards, while driving continuous improvement and supporting audits, supplier evaluations, and metallurgical investigations.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and optimize heat treatment and plating processes for metal components.
- Design and specify heat treat cycles and plating techniques based on material and performance requirements.
- Monitor process parameters to ensure quality and consistency.
- Troubleshoot process issues related to hardness, distortion, plating adhesion, and surface finish.
- Coordinate with production, quality, and R&D teams to support manufacturing and product development.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., AMS, ASTM, ISO) and customer specifications.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for process non-conformances.
- Evaluate and select appropriate heat treating and plating vendors/suppliers.
- Support failure analysis and metallurgical investigations.
- Maintain accurate process documentation, procedures, and work instructions.
- Provide technical support for audits and customer visits.
- Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
Qualification and Education Requirements:
Minimum Education required (specific field or equivalent):
- Engineering Degree preferably in Mechanical / Manufacturing / Aerospace / Chemical / Material Engineering. Education required may be waived with related work experience.
Minimum years of experience in role:
- At least 2 years of relevant working experience in the Special Process Manufacturing Industry.
