Role Overview

As a Custom Software Engineer, you will develop custom software solutions by designing, coding, and enhancing components across various systems and applications. You will use modern frameworks and agile practices to deliver scalable, high-performing solutions tailored to specific business needs, with a particular focus on computational design, geometry processing, and OpenBIM model workflows.

You are expected to be a subject matter expert who collaborates with and guides the team, takes responsibility for team decisions, engages with multiple teams, contributes to key decisions, and solves problems within your immediate team and across teams.

Key Responsibilities

. Take ownership of specific software components and ensure their quality and performance meet project standards.

. Design, develop, and enhance custom tools and plugins in Rhino/ Grasshopper, using Python (and related APIs) to automate design and modelling workflows.

. Build pipelines for reading, validating, transforming, and exporting IFC / OpenBIM models.

. Analyse complex problems and propose innovative solutions that align with business objectives.

. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (design, engineering, BIM, and product) to integrate software components seamlessly.

. Support and guide less experienced colleagues by sharing knowledge, conducting code reviews, and promoting best practices.

. Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance development processes, tooling, and automation.

. Participate in agile ceremonies, contribute to key technical decisions, and document solutions and design rationale.

Candidates must demonstrate the following:

1 Rhino / Grasshopper development experience, including custom components, scripting, and plugin development.

2 Python: strong proficiency in writing clean, maintainable, production-quality code.

3 IFC / OpenBIM standards and model processing experience (e.g., IFC schemas, property sets, model validation, and data extraction / transformation).

Good-to-Have Skills

1 Speckle (connectors, data streaming, and collaboration workflows).

2 Computational design, geometry processing, and automation workflow development.

3 Node.js / React.js for building supporting web applications and services.

Qualifications & Experience

. 5-8 years of relevant working experience in software engineering, ideally within AEC, BIM, or computational design domains.

. Expert proficiency in Software Engineering advanced proficiency in Custom Application Development and Software Design & Solutions.

. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Architecture / Engineering (with strong programming background), or equivalent experience.

. Proven experience working in agile teams and delivering scalable, high-performing solutions.

. Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to mentor and lead.
