Software Engineer – Core Banking (Production Support & Maintenance)

About the Role

We are looking for a sharp, driven Software Engineer to join our client delivery team, embedded within a major regional banking environment. In this role, you will bridge software reliability and technical maintenance, ensuring the seamless execution of high-volume financial systems. You will play a vital role in troubleshooting complex code-level incidents, optimising core application performance, and collaborating closely with cross-functional development and infrastructure teams to build next-generation monitoring systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Own Level 2 technical troubleshooting, analyse root causes for complex software incidents, resolve code and environment-level tickets, and maintain a robust knowledge base.
• Provide hands-on technical support during End-of-Day (EOD) batch runs, executing fixes and performance enhancements.
• Partner with service automation and L3 engineering teams to implement advanced application monitoring tools, dashboards, and automated alerts.
• Work cross-functionally with incident managers, infrastructure teams, and database administrators to drive rapid resolution of major operational incidents and upcoming change implementations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience, with a proven track record in software engineering, technical solution delivery, or application support within the banking and financial services industry.

Core Technical Stack:

• Strong familiarity with OS/400 (IBM i) systems architecture.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as RPG and COBOL.
• Hands-on experience or exposure to core banking platforms (such as Silverlake) is a distinct advantage.

Technical & Tooling Knowledge:

• Understanding of SDLC and ITIL frameworks.
• Familiarity with enterprise middleware/utilities (e.g., MQ, Connect Direct, Control-M).
• Experience with monitoring and log analytics tools (e.g., Splunk, Geneos, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Ansible).

Soft Skills:

• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills; assertive, articulate communicator in both written and spoken English; adaptable to a fast-paced environment and flexible with occasional wee-hour or weekend support.
