Job Summary

Join Vertex Games AI New Business team as an early-career software engineer, rapidly transforming AI-driven ideas into working prototypes and products. You will ship software, iterate based on user feedback, and own product surfaces end-to-end in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Build prototypes and early-stage products using LLM APIs integrated with web, services, or mobile technology stacks suited to the problem.
• Translate half-formed ideas into working demos within days to accelerate learning and iteration.
• Own at least one product surface end-to-end, including design decisions, coding, deployment, telemetry, and follow-up improvements.
• Deploy prototypes to real users (initially internal, then external) and incorporate feedback into subsequent iterations.
• Utilize AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, etc.) effectively as part of your development workflow, discerning when they enhance or hinder productivity.
• Participate in quarterly retrospectives to share insights on experiments, learnings, and evolving assumptions.

Required competencies and certifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field completed by the role start date.
• Strong computer science fundamentals demonstrated through academic or practical experience.
• Proven track record of delivering software used by real users, such as side projects, hackathon wins, internship tools, open-source contributions, or indie games.
• Ability to progress under ambiguity, managing incomplete problem statements and evolving requirements independently.
• Demonstrated use of large language models (LLMs) as a core component in real projects beyond conversational applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English to collaborate effectively within the team.

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Deep expertise in at least one of the following tracks, with practical experience beyond academic projects:
• Frontend/Web: React, Next.js, TypeScript, or comparable technologies with shipped web applications.
• Backend/Services: Python, Go, Node.js, or comparable languages with understanding of databases, APIs, and deployment.
• Mobile: Swift, Kotlin, React Native, Flutter, or comparable frameworks with shipped working apps.
• Experience releasing software publicly on platforms such as App Store, Play Store, itch.io, GitHub, or public web apps.
• Background in game development to align with the company's industry focus.
• Informed, experience-based opinions on the capabilities and limitations of current AI tools.
