Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities of a Main Contractor Site Engineer

1. Execution of Works

  • Supervise and coordinate all structural, architectural, and M&E works on site.
  • Ensure works are carried out as per approved drawings, specifications, and method statements.
  • Liaise with subcontractors to ensure timely and proper execution.

2. Planning & Coordination

  • Develop daily and weekly work schedules based on the project timeline.
  • Coordinate with: Subcontractors, consultants (e.g., QP, RE/RTO), HDB project officers
  • Ensure proper sequencing of works to avoid delays or rework.

3. Site Supervision

  • Conduct daily inspections of work progress and quality.
  • Ensure that construction complies with BCA, HDB standards, and workplace safety regulations.
  • Monitor concrete casting, rebar installation, waterproofing, precast panel erection, etc.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare daily site reports, progress updates, and site diaries.
  • Track materials delivered and used on site.
  • Submit inspection checklists, quality control records, and non-conformance reports (NCRs) when needed.

5. Liaison with Authorities and Consultants

  • Assist in arranging inspections with HDB, QPs, and RTOs/REs.
  • Coordinate for site instructions (SIs), request for information (RFIs), and technical queries.
  • Attend site meetings and safety briefings.

6. Safety & Housekeeping

  • Ensure works are carried out in compliance with the Workplace Safety and Health Act (WSH Act).
  • Implement and monitor safety measures (barricades, signage, PPE use).
  • Report unsafe practices or incidents to the Safety Officer and Project Manager.

7. Quality Control

  • Ensure workmanship meets required standards and tolerances.
  • Conduct inspections before consultant inspections.
  • Rectify defects or non-conforming works immediately.

8. Handling Materials & Equipment

  • Monitor delivery, storage, and usage of construction materials.
  • Ensure proper handling of precast elements (e.g. PPVC, precast walls, staircases).
  • Coordinate with crane operators and lifting teams for safe operations.

9. Method Statements & Work Procedures

  • Understand and implement approved Method Statements, especially for critical activities.
  • Ensure all workers are briefed on safe and correct procedures before starting work.

10. Final Works & Handover

  • Support rectification works before handover and inspection by HDB/QP.
  • Assist in defect inspections and TOP/CSC documentation.
  • Ensure site is clean and ready for handover stages.
