Job Summary
Perform routine and diagnostic maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation, using specialized tools and technology while adhering to safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance on trucks, including checking batteries and changing oil to maintain proper vehicle operation
- Inspect truck components such as brake systems, wheel bearings, and steering mechanisms to verify proper functioning
- Use tools and equipment like pressure gauges, pneumatic wrenches, welding gear, screwdrivers, hoists, and jacks to repair trucks safely
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions by inspecting and testing with motor analyzers, handheld computers, and chassis charts to identify issues
- Conduct test drives to confirm vehicle performance, diagnose problems, and implement solutions
- Replace parts including valves, bearings, and gears, and repair vehicle cooling and heating systems to restore functionality
- Measure vehicle emissions to ensure compliance with regulatory limits
- Inspect and verify parts to confirm they meet factory specifications for clearances and dimensions
Required competencies and certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least two (2) years of work experience as a diesel mechanic or in related roles
- Experience operating diagnostic computers for vehicle troubleshooting
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and parts regularly
- Technical certification or degree relevant to vehicle maintenance
- Ability to diagnose and repair heavy equipment, prime movers, lorries, and vans
- Commitment to work 5.5 days a week (Monday to Friday 8:15 am-5:45 pm, Saturday 8:15 am-12:30 pm) with a one-hour lunch break
- Willingness to work overtime as required
Preferred competencies and qualifications
. High school diploma or equivalent
. At least two (2) years of work experience as a diesel mechanic
