Draft, review, and negotiate physical iron ore trading contracts in line with agreed commercial terms and Sumitomo Group's internal guidelines.
Manage end‑to‑end contract workflows by coordinating with internal stakeholders, Legal, and Risk Management to ensure accurate execution and compliance adhering to Sumitomo Group's internal guidelines.
Conduct counterparty credit and financial assessments and submit internal applications in accordance with SER and Sumitomo Group's internal guidelines, including engaging in discussions and providing explanations to Japan headquarters and gathering relevant information through external consultants.
Responsible for providing recommendations to the Trade Team on credit terms where counterparties are assessed to have high guarantee risks.
Prepare annual internal applications for derivative transactions and comprehensive credit on sales in accordance with company rules.
Support iron ore trading activities through market, position, and P&L analysis, providing insights and recommendations on strategy, contract terms, and risk management.
Collaborate with Japan headquarters, overseas offices, and internal teams on sales, and post‑trade processes, and proactively contribute to process improvements.
Identify and develop relationships with reliable overseas iron ore suppliers and key market players in Singapore and Southeast Asia.
Strengthen engagement with existing and prospective suppliers and customers through competitor analysis and market intelligence gathering.
Monitor and analyse market conditions and industry trends, and provide insight‑based reports to internal stakeholders. Offer strategic and tactical recommendations to support business growth and contribute to the performance of the global team.
Requirements:
Minimum Degree, with at least 3 years of experience in ferrous raw materials trading, including price negotiation, contract drafting, vessel coordination, payment settlement, credit management, and claims handling.
2-3 years of experience in business development related to ferrous raw materials trading, including managing and business development of mining investments.
Possess fundamental understanding of commodity trading and relevant regulatory requirements, with basic knowledge of accounting, finance, and legal principles.
Ability to build effective working relationships and networks across organisations within Sumitomo Corporation.
Strong working knowledge of bulk commodity physical trading contracts, including contract terms, shipping conditions, and documentation formats, with the ability to review amendments and negotiate adjustments where required.
