Job Description

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) is a founding School of the Nanyang Technological University. The key objective is to support efforts to advance cutting-edge research in photonic integration for quantum sensing, neuromorphic computing, and chip-scale laser systems.

We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow to lead the design and development of chip-scale laser systems for quantum sensing under Project Apollo. The role involves integrated photonic device design, fabrication process development, and system characterization. The candidate will mentor junior researchers, coordinate with industry partners, and contribute to high-impact publications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead integrated laser design and quantum photonic device development

  • Oversee large-scale photonic integration and foundry coordination

  • Direct device and system characterization mentor team members

  • Mentor and supervise junior researchers, PhD students, and research assistants within the group.

  • Coordinate research activities with industry partners (e.g., DSO, Samsung) and academic collaborators.

  • Prepare high-impact publications and present research findings at international conferences.

  • Contribute to research grant proposals and funding applications.

  • Ensure compliance with project milestones, deliverables, and reporting requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD (for Research Fellow and above equivalent) qualification degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Optical Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • At least 4 years of relevant postdoctoral experience in integrated photonics, laser design, or quantum photonic systems.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Proficiency in photonic simulation tools such as Ansys Lumerical, Tidy3D, and layout tools such as GDSfactory, KLayout, or equivalent.

  • Strong programming skills in Python and MATLAB for data analysis, device modeling, and automation.

  • Demonstrated publication track record in high-impact journals (e.g., Nature Photonics, Optica, ACS Photonics, or equivalent).

  • Hands-on cleanroom fabrication experience including lithography, etching, thin-film deposition, and device packaging.

  • Interpersonal skills (e.g. ability to work independently, develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills).
