Job Description

Senior Research Engineer (Applied Scientist/Applied AI)

Location | Singapore

Comp | Highly Competitive + Equity + Package

Focus | Pretraining, Post-Training, Multimodal Models, RLHF, Evaluation, Distributed Training

We're partnering with one of the leading AI research and product companies globally, building state-of-the-art foundation models and pushing the frontier of what's possible across text, image, and speech.

With global teams and strong momentum, they are now expanding their Research Engineering group in Singapore, hiring exceptional researchers and engineers who can help develop, train, evaluate, and deploy frontier multimodal models at scale. This is a rare opportunity to work directly on SOTA model development, tackling some of the hardest challenges across pretraining, post-training, evaluation, agents, and large-scale AI systems.

About The Role

As a Research Engineer, you'll work on the development of state-of-the-art models across multiple modalities, helping push forward novel research ideas while also applying them to high-impact real-world problems.

You'll work closely across science, engineering, product, and external research teams, contributing to both core model development and the systems needed to train, evaluate, and deploy them effectively.

This role is ideal for people who enjoy operating at the intersection of research and engineering building not just better models, but also the tooling, data pipelines, evaluation systems, and training infrastructure required to make them useful in practice.

Examples of the types of challenges you might tackle:

  • Running pretraining and post-training of large-scale models across text, image, and speech
  • Designing and improving evaluation pipelines, data generation systems, and benchmark suites
  • Developing novel methods to improve reasoning, instruction-following, multimodal understanding, and model quality
  • Building tools and frameworks for training, inference, deployment, and experimentation
  • Working on agent systems and RAG pipelines for advanced use cases
  • Collaborating with internal and external research teams on cutting-edge AI projects

What You'll Do

Train and improve frontier models: Run pretraining, post-training, fine-tuning, and evaluation workflows on large-scale GPU clusters to improve model quality and capability.

Build research and training infrastructure: Develop the tools, pipelines, and frameworks needed to support data generation, model training, evaluation, and deployment.

Work across modalities and model capabilities: Contribute to research and engineering across text, image, speech, multimodal understanding, agents, and retrieval-based systems.

Collaborate across science and engineering: Work closely with internal research, engineering, and product teams, as well as external research partners, to solve complex applied AI challenges.

Own research execution end-to-end: Take ideas from concept through to experiment design, implementation, benchmarking, and productionisation.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience in machine learning research, applied AI, or research engineering
  • Deep hands-on experience with PyTorch or JAX
  • Strong Python engineering skills, with the ability to write clean, readable, performant, fault-tolerant code
  • Experience working on LLMs, multimodal models, or modern foundation model systems
  • Experience with pretraining, post-training, fine-tuning, evaluation, or model optimisation
  • Comfortable working with large codebases and distributed training / inference environments
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • High ownership, curiosity, and ability to operate independently in fast-moving, ambiguous environments

It would be great if you:

  • Hold a PhD or Master's in a relevant field such as Machine Learning, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or similar
  • Have experience across areas such as: agents, multimodality, robotics, diffusion, time-series
  • Have contributed to a large codebase used broadly in industry or open source
  • Have a track record of publications at top conferences / journals
  • Care deeply about engineering quality, including testing, typing, CI, and improving existing systems

You'll Likely Thrive Here If

  • You enjoy working on frontier AI technologies
  • You like solving hard model, systems, and research problems
  • You enjoy bridging research and engineering
  • You want to work with smart, low-ego, highly capable people
  • You care about building AI systems that are both technically impressive and genuinely useful

What's On Offer

  • Competitive compensation with equity upside
  • Health insurance coverage
  • Monthly wellness allowance including gym membership support
  • Meal allowance to support daily work
  • Transportation allowance for commuting or parking
  • The opportunity to work with some of the best AI researchers and engineers in the world
