The Senior Quality Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for leading, implementing, and coordinating all project quality assurance and quality control activities for the mechanical scope of a CCGT power plant project. This includes overseeing site fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning of key mechanical systems such as HRSGs, piping systems, BOP equipment, fuel gas/fuel oil systems and cooling water systems and coordinating with other discipline engineers.
The role ensures full compliance with project specifications, codes & standards, contractual requirements, and regulatory obligations through proactive quality planning, surveillance, inspections, and systematic issue resolution.
Responsibilities:
- Review and maintain the Mechanical Quality Plan, ITPs, method statements, and inspection checklists in compliance with contract requirements and applicable codes.
- Review EPC Contractor's and vendor documentation, including mechanical manufacturing procedures, welding procedures (WPS/PQR), NDT procedures, FAT/SAT protocols, and commissioning test procedures.
- Review field QA/QC for mechanical installation works such as site piping fabrication, pressure testing, rotating equipment installation, HVAC systems, tanks, and auxiliary systems.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Test (SAT), reviewing test procedures and verifying compliance with acceptance criteria.
- Track project NCRs, corrective actions, and closeout status.
- Witness critical inspections and tests including:
Weld inspections and NDT
Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing
Alignment checks for rotating equipment
Mechanical completion tests
Commissioning functional tests - Verify that mechanical works comply with design drawings, specifications, quality plans, and contractual acceptance criteria
- Interface daily with EPC Contractor, Owner and third-party inspectors to plan inspections, resolve quality issues, and close NCRs.
- Monitor EPC site fabrication and installation progress to enable timely inspections, as required under Contract obligations.
- Facilitate communication during quality audits, walkdowns, or technical clarifications.
- Maintain quality logs for welds, NDT status, pressure tests, equipment installation records, calibration certificates, and material traceability.
- Prepare QA/QC reports, highlighting inspection progress, quality issues, NCR trends, and risk areas.
- Ensure compliance with relevant international and local standards (e.g., ASME, API, EN, ISO), jurisdictional authority requirements, and project specific owner requirements.
- Review EPC root cause analyses for quality issues, proposed corrective and preventive actions, and tracking implementation.
- Assess EPC Contractor quality performance and recommend improvements.
- Support lessons learned reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all mechanical QA/QC documentation aligns with EPC Contract requirements for inspection and testing.
- Any other duties deemed necessary.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
- Minimum 8-12 years of QA/QC experience in power projects, petrochemical, or large industrial plants.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical construction standards, welding, NDT, piping systems, rotating equipment, and mechanical commissioning.
- Experience working with EPC contractors and Owner Engineer teams.
- Familiarity with EPC Contract-driven inspection requirements and structured QA/QC workflows for CCGT projects.
- Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder coordination skills.
