Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Project Manager to lead critical IT initiatives within a European banking operations. This role sits at the intersection of technology, business strategy, and governance, requiring a technically strong professional who can confidently engage with developers, architects, and senior stakeholders alike.
The ideal candidate will combine deep project management expertise with a solid understanding of IT systems and software development lifecycles. You will be responsible for end-to-end delivery of complex IT projects - from business case development through procurement, execution, and implementation - ensuring alignment with strategic goals, regulatory standards, and financial constraints.
You will be involved to manage budgets, timelines, risks, and reporting, while acting as the single point of contact for clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead the planning, execution, and closure of concurrent standard to highly complex IT projects across the full project lifecycle.
- Develop and present robust business cases, including cost-benefit analysis, ROI projections, and investment justifications.
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, success metrics, and resource requirements in collaboration with business and technical teams.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards, while meeting regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Implement rigorous scope control, change management, and risk mitigation practices throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project performance using KPIs and PMO frameworks provide regular status updates and dashboards to executives and stakeholders.
Stakeholder & Client Engagement
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external clients, managing expectations, escalations, and satisfaction.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with business units, IT teams, vendors, and senior leadership.
Technical & Governance Oversight
- Collaborate closely with solution architects and development teams, challenging designs and ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with enterprise architecture.
- Manage procurement and audit processes for IT systems and third-party vendors, ensuring value for money and compliance.
- Ensure adherence to IT policies, security guidelines, quality standards (e.g., ISO, GDPR), and industry best practices such as ITIL.
- Oversee documentation of all project artifacts: charters, plans, risk registers, change logs, lessons learned, etc.
PMO & Financial Management
- Baseline and track project budgets, forecasts, and resource allocations.
- Maintain accurate financial reporting and ensure transparency in cost tracking and variance analysis.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of PMO processes, tools, and methodologies (e.g., waterfall, agile, hybrid).
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or Project Management, or equivalent.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a plus.
- Additional certifications are highly valued: Scrum Master (CSM/PSM), ITIL, PRINCE2, SAFe, or Certified Product Owner.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in IT, preferably within financial services, banking, or multinational professional services firms.
- Proven track record of managing end-to-end project lifecycles across at least two full development cycles (design, build, test, deploy).
- Experience managing data-intensive projects and working with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCC) is a strong plus.
- Demonstrated experience in change management, risk management, and stakeholder communication in high-pressure environments.
