Role Overview

As a Senior Project Engineer (m/f/d) Navigation, you will be part of a project team, participation in technical clarifications, system design, document reviews, design reviews. FAT and later be a key participant when installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining navigation systems onboard vessels. The work takes place in our site, at customer site, at suppliers, in shipyards and onboard operating vessels. You will work independently on site, while being supported by an experienced team, supplier's tech support and our technical internal technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participating in Design and Engineering of marine navigation systems including documentation, e.g. system descriptions & test protocols.
  • Testing the systems, sub systems and functionalities during engineering period.
  • Facilitating technical solutions, including support for ILS documentation.
  • Participating in internal project status and milestone reviews.
  • Following up on quality and security procedures.
  • Facilitating or conducting inhouse Factory Acceptance Test(FAT).
  • Facilitation of and participating in supplier equipment FAT.
  • Providing advice on design change when problems are identified.
  • Executing on site commissioning/service of navigation systems(also overseas).
  • Participating in onboard acceptance tests and trials. (also overseas)
  • Assisting other team members as required in resolving Quality/Design issues.
  • Providing support to the management, of external and internal stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and fine-tune systems (e.g., tests, adjustments, calibrations)
  • Create service documentation and technical reports after work completion
  • Interact professionally with shipyards, owners, and crew during service execution
  • Ensure compliance with NACOS Marine Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental standards
  • Conduct major repairs or lead on-site work teams (for senior profiles)
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues (senior) or receive onboarding training and mentoring (junior)
  • Advise customers on available technical solutions, retrofits, or service offerings

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in a relevant specialization, e.g. electronics, automation, navigation, maritime engineering, mechatronics.
  • Min 5 years of working experience in the Marine OT industry.
  • Good interpersonal skills, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Network knowledge.
  • General Cyber security awareness and understanding.
  • Knowledge of Navigation related OT Interface communication protocols, IEC61162-1, -2, -450 & NMEA 0183.
  • Good understanding of Navigation Sensors functionality (Radar, DGNSS, Inertial Navigation Systems, Speed log, Echo sounder, Sonar, Metrological systems,..).
  • Ability to travel overseas
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 360 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics willingness to learn system documentation (junior) or experience making corrections on site (senior)
  • Strong communication skills in your native tongue and English (written & spoken)
  • Hands-on mindset, ability to work both independently and within a team
