Why This Role Exists
PawketPlace is building a living system, not a feature checklist. This role exists to turn complex, human-centred thinking into clean, executable systems where behaviour, routines, time, and confidence are modelled properly before AI is layered on top. You will be the person who turns messy real life into logic that holds up over years. You are not building AI features. You are building the engine that AI will sit on later.
We are explicitly looking for someone who:
- Thinks in state machines, transitions, and rules, not dashboards
- Is comfortable using heuristics before machine learning
- Understands that confidence is a variable, not a binary
- Respects time, decay, context, and recovery
- Knows that premature AI creates fragile products
- Builds systems that explain themselves
You are calm under ambiguity and don't rush to ship intelligence without foundations. Your job is to challenge logic, stress-test assumptions, and help the system stay sane as complexity grows. If this goes well, this role naturally evolves into: Founding Engineer or Head of Product Systems / Intelligence with meaningful equity

Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience is a plus
- 6+ years building and maintaining production systems that needed to work over time, not just ship once
- Has seen systems evolve as user behaviour, data quality, and context change
- Comfortable making decisions under ambiguity and incomplete information
- Has experienced the cost of over-engineering and learned restraint
- Experience designing logic around states, transitions, and time, not just features or dashboards
- Has built systems where: data is noisy or incomplete, confidence matters, silence is sometimes the right behaviour
- Understands how and when systems should pause, decay, recover, or reset
- Comfortable using rules, heuristics, and clear logic before machine learning
- Understands the risks of introducing AI prematurely
- Thinks about explainability, trust, and long-term system health
- Has worked in founder-led or early-stage environments where problems are not fully defined
- Can translate product intent into executable logic
- Calm, thoughtful, and opinionated without being dogmatic
