Senior Process Automation Engineer (Biopharmaceutical) - Global European Engineering Organisation
The Opportunity
We are partnering with a globally established European engineering and technology organisation supporting some of the world's leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers.
As part of a strategic expansion in Asia Pacific, they are strengthening their Singapore engineering hub and seeking a Senior Process Automation Engineer to play a key role in delivering complex, high-value life sciences manufacturing projects.
This is an opportunity which sits at the intersection of:
- Process engineering
- Advanced automation (DeltaV-led environments)
- GMP-compliant biopharmaceutical manufacturing
You will be part of a growing regional team shaping the delivery of next-generation automated production facilities for global pharma and biotech clients.
About the Role
The Senior Process Automation Engineer will contribute across the full project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through to commissioning, qualification, and operational readiness.
This role has a strong process engineering foundation with a clear automation focus, particularly within DeltaV environments, while also offering exposure to other leading control platforms such as Siemens and Rockwell systems.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across process, automation, validation, and project delivery to ensure robust, compliant, and efficient manufacturing solutions.
What You Should Have
- Background in process engineering within pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences manufacturing
- Strong exposure to automation systems, ideally including DeltaV
- Familiarity with other platforms (desirable): Siemens PCS7, Rockwell Automation / PlantPAx
- Understanding of GMP-regulated manufacturing environments
- Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving approach
- Confident engaging with clients, vendors, and technical stakeholders
What You Will Be Doing
- Develop and review process designs, PFDs, P&IDs, and technical specifications
- Support process design integration with automation systems (DeltaV-led control strategies)
- Collaborate with automation teams on batch control, recipes, and process logic
- Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning, and qualification (CQV) activities
- Perform process calculations, optimisation studies, and risk assessments (HAZOP/FMEA)
- Support GMP compliance across design, execution, and validation phases
- Troubleshoot process and automation-related issues in live environments
- Contribute to technical documentation and validation deliverables
- Support continuous improvement and process optimisation initiatives
Experience and Skillsets
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Biotechnology, Automation, Mechatronics, or related discipline
- 5-10 years industry experience in regulated manufacturing or engineering environments
- Strong exposure to pharmaceutical / biotech manufacturing processes, including:
- Bioreactors / upstream processing
- Downstream purification (chromatography, filtration)
- Clean utilities (WFI, CIP/SIP, buffers/media systems)
- Experience in automation or process control environments, particularly:
- DeltaV (key requirement)
- Other systems (Siemens PCS7, Rockwell) highly desirable
- Familiarity with GMP / GxP regulated environments
- Understanding of batch control systems (ISA-88), PID control, and process automation principles
- Exposure to CQV (Commissioning, Qualification & Validation) activities
- Knowledge of industrial protocols (e.g., Profibus, Ethernet/IP) and digital manufacturing concepts
- Experience in EPC/EPCM or engineering consultancy environments is advantageous
- Interest in bioprocessing, automation integration, and digital manufacturing systems
