Reporting jointly to the Chief Risk Officer and Head of Planning, this role acts as a key liaison with our Head Office (HO) in Tokyo and will support in driving MSIG's growth strategy across our business units in Asia (BUs) by planning, formulating, and reviewing strategies with a strong focus on enterprise risk management, capital efficiency, and performance discipline.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Performance Management: Lead strategic planning for the Asia region. Monitor and drive achievement of key financial targets (GWP, underwriting results, PAT). Ensure compliance with business excellence standards.
- Business Expansion & Transformation: Drive initiatives to position MSIG as a market leader in Asia. Leverage digital technologies, promote synergy across BUs, and identify opportunities for M&A and strategic partnerships.
- Risk Management & Capital Efficiency: Align business strategies and plans with the enterprise risk appetite, enhancing capital efficiency through both quantitative and qualitative analysis. Perform qualitative risk assessments of business plans and initiatives, providing actionable and forwardlooking recommendations to BUs. Support ROE-focused management by integrating risk, capital, and financial considerations into strategic decision-making.
- Reporting & Coordination: Deliver accurate and timely reporting to Head Office in Tokyo. Build and maintain strong relationships with the management team and relevant departments.
Requirements
- Degree holder
- Professional qualifications and certifications in risk management
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the general insurance industry, with experience in business development (retail and corporate), operations, and enterprise risk management
- Strong understanding of the general insurance industry in Asia, including political, social, and regulatory dynamics
- Strong knowledge of general insurance products across multiple lines of business, including experience in developing and implementing distribution channels
- Proven experience managing cross-border projects and working effectively within global or regional structures
- Solid knowledge of finance and economics, with the ability to interpret financial and risk information to support strategic decisions.
- Demonstrated project management capability
- Proficiency in written and spoken Japanese to communicate effectively with stakeholders and senior management at Head Office
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with a strategic mindset, financial acumen, and ability to collaborate effectively across multiple BUs
