Job Summary:

Join our client as Senior Manager, Global Lead for Tax Controversy to oversee the company's global tax audits and disputes. The role requires expertise in cross-border controversies, strong negotiation skills, and legal/tax lawyer training, partnering with Legal, Government Affairs, and Commercial teams to shape tax strategy and policy.

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Law, or related field; JD/LLM/MST preferred;
• Legal training or tax lawyer experience required; CPA/Chartered Accountant a plus;
• 10+ years in tax controversy, audit defense, or litigation, with multi-jurisdictional experience in the Asia Pacific region;
• Strong knowledge of tax laws and dispute resolution; proven ability to lead complex audits, draft technical documentation, and negotiate with tax authorities;
• Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills; able to work independently and across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.

Desired skills:

• Proficiency in English is required; additional Asia-Pacific language skills are a plus;
• Prior experiences in the US and Europe would be an added advantage;
• JD, LLM, or MST preferred; CPA or Chartered Accountant designation is a plus.

Job Responsibilities: (Lead Tax Controversy & Audits)

• Oversee all tax controversy matters globally, including audits, notices, refund claims, appeals, and litigation, from initial inquiry to resolution;
• Act as the primary lead on cases, setting strategy and serving as the main contact with tax authorities, external advisors, and internal stakeholders;
• Analyze complex tax laws, regulations, treaties, and case law; prepare and review responses, position papers, legal memoranda, and dispute documentation;
• Design and maintain best-practice frameworks, playbooks, templates, and documentation standards for global tax controversy management;
• Work closely with Tax, Legal, Government Affairs, PR, Finance, and business teams to ensure aligned positions and coordinated responses;
• Monitor global tax and policy developments, provide technical input to advocacy initiatives, and assess potential impacts on controversies;
• Mentor junior team members, promote tax controversy awareness, and drive continuous improvement in processes and risk mitigation;
• Maintain comprehensive records of all controversy-related activities and support the company's global tax strategy with consistent messaging across jurisdictions.
