Purpose and Key Accountabilities
The Senior Manager, Fertilizer Trading will be responsible for the management of physical fertilizer trading activities, including Nitrogen, Phosphate, Potassium-based and other mineral fertilizers. This role contributes to RtM's organizational goals by establishing and growing the Fertilizer desk in line with its strategic potential.
The incumbent will lead the development and ongoing maintenance of the fertilizer trading business plan for the fertilizer trading team, ensuring alignment with RtMI's overall strategic objectives. This includes close coordination with Mitsubishi Corporation Mineral Resources Investments (MRI) team in Tokyo to align strategies, support their initiatives as a marketing arm and collaborate with Mitsubishi's agriculture business units and other regional offices to explore and develop new business opportunities.
In addition, the role is responsible for managing the fertilizer trading team's budget and overseeing day-to-day operations, and managing members in the team to ensure effective execution of trading and business development activities.
This position reports to the General Manager, Business Development.
Job Responsibilities
1.Fertilizer Trading (30%)
. Manage and execute physical mineral fertilizer trading activities including but not limited to Nitrogen, Phosphates and Potash-based fertilizers.
. Collaborate closely with corporate support teams such as trade operations, freight, legal, trade control, etc. to ensure smooth and compliant trade execution.
2.Business Development (30%)
. Assess, identify, and develop business opportunities with suppliers, counterparties, and partners.
. Explore and implement new business models, including structured trades and the establishment of new entities where applicable.
3.Budgeting and Reporting (10%)
. Develop business strategies and prepare annual budgets for the fertilizer trading division.
. Collaborate with colleagues from MRI team to ensure alignment of department strategies with overall group directions and global RtM entities.
. Prepare and submit reports to MRI team in Japanese, as required.
4.Strategy and Planning (10%)
. Develop and maintain the fertilizer trading business plan in collaboration with MRI team, Mitsubishi's agriculture business units, regional offices with support from external consultants.
5.Risk Management (10%)
. Monitor counterparty performance and manage credit, market and operational risks.
. Actively manage trading exposure to ensure risks are mitigated and maintained at optimized levels across counterparties and regions.
6.Market Intelligence (10%)
. Establish and maintain strong networks and relationships with key industry players.
. Consolidate market intelligence, research and insights, and share relevant information with global teams to support strategic decision-making.
EXPERIENCE
. Minimum of 10 years experience in physical and/or futures commodities trading with bulk commodities.
. Proven leadership and people management experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
. At least a bachelor's degree from recognized universities in business, finance or other relevant disciplines.
. Strong industry networks and established relationships with key industry players.
. Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to identify risks and propose effective mitigation strategies.
. Business proficiency in spoken and written English and Japanese. Japanese proficiency is mandatory as communication with MRI team, Mitsubishi's agriculture business units and reports preparation will be primarily conducted in Japanese.
