Role Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Legal Manager to join our Singapore office. The successful candidate will oversee back-office legal operations, review all contracts with clients and vendors, manage HQ legal templates, and ensure local compliance with Singapore laws. This role requires strong managerial skills, Japanese proficiency, and the ability to interpret contracts drafted by HQ or external parties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee corporate legal and compliance operations in Singapore and other South East Asia and Greater China Region (GCR) offices.
  • Review, interpret HQ-drafted contracts, templates, and legal guidance for local compliance.
  • Review all contracts with clients and vendors, ensuring compliance with company policies and Singapore law.
  • Provide senior-level advice on corporate, commercial, employment, and regulatory matters.
  • Ensure local compliance with Singapore laws while aligning with global corporate policies.
  • Liaise with HQ legal teams in Japan, other legal teams in group companies across the region, external counsels, clients, vendors, and regulatory authorities as needed.
  • Support management in risk assessment, mitigation, and dispute resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Legal manager experience in Japan with good understanding of Singapore legal and business practices.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in corporate, commercial, or regulatory law, with at least 5 years in a senior/managerial role.
  • Proficient in Japanese and English, capable of liaising with Japan HQ, interpreting legal documents, and communicating effectively with Singapore government agencies, regulatory authorities, management, and staff.
  • Strong analytical, communication, negotiation skills, especially for Japanese headquartered companies.
  • Experience reviewing and managing contracts with both clients and vendors.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in IT, technology, or consulting industry.
  • Familiarity with corporate governance, employment law, and cross-border legal compliance in Japan, Singapore and other countries in SEA/GCR.
  • Experience working with international legal teams and HQ legal teams.
