We are seeking an experienced Senior Finance Manager to oversee the firm's financial operations, strengthen financial discipline, and provide strategic financial insights to senior leadership. This role requires strong technical accounting expertise, rigorous reconciliation practices, and deep familiarity with financial performance drivers in a professional services environment-ideally within a law firm.
The successful candidate will ensure accurate, compliant financial records robust cash flow and treasury oversight and meaningful financial reporting that supports decision making at the highest level. The role reports directly to senior management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Integrity, Accounting & Controls
Ensure the firm's financial data is accurate, reconciled, and compliant with accounting standards.
Responsibilities include:
. Overseeing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
. Ensuring all accounts are properly reconciled (bank, WIP, AR, AP, partner accounts, tax balances)
2. Financial Performance, Profitability & Reporting
Provide management with visibility into the firm's financial performance across practices, matters, and partners.
Responsibilities include:
. Tracking revenue, expenses, utilisation, and profitability by matter, practice group, and partner
. Monitoring WIP, billing cycles, and collections, including identifying delays or inefficiencies
. Ensuring billing and collection milestones are met
. Analysing compensation structures and cost allocations within a professional services model
3. Cash Flow Management & Treasury Oversight
Take proactive responsibility for the firm's liquidity and financial sustainability.
Responsibilities include:
. Cash flow forecasting and management
. Monitoring working capital, expenses, and treasury movements
4. Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Financial Planning
Support the firm's leadership with forward looking insights and planning.
Responsibilities include:
. Leading annual budgeting and rolling forecasts
. Providing insights into operational trends and performance improvement opportunities
5. Compliance, Risk & Regulatory Management
Ensure the firm meets all statutory, tax, and industry specific obligations.
Responsibilities include:
. Overseeing GST, corporate tax, and regulatory filings
. Ensuring compliance with legal industry regulations and an LLC structure
. Strengthening internal financial discipline
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
. Professional qualification: CPA, ACCA, or CA
. 8+ years of finance or accounting experience, preferably in a professional services or law firm environment
. Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls
. Experience with month end and year end closing processes
. Strong understanding of WIP management, legal billing systems, matter profitability, and compensation
structures
. Solid experience in cash flow management, budgeting, and financial modelling
. Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with senior stakeholders
. Experience managing finance within an LLC structure (preferred)
