An opportunity is now available for a career-minded individual to join us in MSC Southeast Asia (Singapore) Pte Ltd, as Executive, Cost Control.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Cost Control. In this position, you will have opportunities to acquire skills and knowledge in the following areas:

Cost Control & Financial Management

  • Oversee and analyze Principal expenses to improve cost efficiency, ensure accuracy, and support savings initiatives.
  • Manage the full Provision of Vessel Expense (PVE) cycle - including estimation, submission, variance review, monthly modifications, and amendments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate Disbursement Account (DA), General Account (GA) submissions, and respond promptly to Principal queries.
  • Reconcile monthly suspense accounts and ensure discrepancies are resolved within required timelines.
  • Review Principal income streams (land & logistics), enhancing billing accuracy, collections, margins, and controlling waivers.
  • Prepare monthly cost and variance analysis reports, collaborating across departments to uphold strong internal controls and mitigate financial risks.
  • Maintain principal and agency contracts, and support vendor master creation and PO issuance in OVP/SAP.
  • Provide backup support to team members when needed.

Reporting and Deliverables to Management

  • Prepare monthly suspense account reconciliations and ensure timely, accurate Electronic Cost Reporting (ECR).
  • Compile monthly Agency KPI data and prepare cost analysis reports for management and the regional office.
  • Identify potential financial or operational risks and work with HODs and process owners to implement corrective actions.
  • Liaise with auditors, tax agents, and local authorities, ensuring proper audit trails and compliance with statutory requirements.

Systems and Process Improvement

  • Partner with relevant stakeholders to refine endtoend Cost Control processes.
  • Identify system / process misalignments to drive standardization and improvement.

Performance Management and Individual Development

  • Develop performance metrics to support team and individual effectiveness.
  • Mentor and guide Cost Control team members by providing technical financial advice and promoting continuous learning.
  • Drive improvements in accounting controls and best practices to enhance work quality and efficiency.
  • Support Finance department with new initiatives and projects.
QUALIFICATIONS

Who We Are Looking For

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of related voyage expenses accounting experience in a shipping industry
  • Degree in Finance or Accounting, Qualified ACCA Professional or equivalent
  • Good Singapore IFRS and basic tax knowledge
  • Minimum 2 years SAP system experience hands-on in end-to-end Voyage Expenses Accounting Process
  • MS Office:
    • Intermediate MS Excel for intelligent data massaging skills
    • Intermediate MS Word and MS Outlook
  • Good business English for written and verbal communication with clients and colleagues
  • Good analytical skills and problem solver
  • Good time-management
  • Managing performance expectations and high quality deliverables
  • Able to meet deadlines, work under stress and adaptable to change.
