Position Overview
The Senior Engineer, Test & Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving test solutions for optoelectronic and photonic products from research and development through mass production. This role involves hands-on testing, data analysis, test automation, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, repeatable, and production-ready test processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of comprehensive testing strategies for optoelectronic products across R&D, qualification, and high-volume manufacturing.
- Own optical, electro-optical (DC/RF), and photonic integrated circuit (PIC) testing and characterization methodologies, ensuring accuracy, robustness, and scalability.
- Architect, design, and continuously improve advanced test systems, fixtures/jigs, and measurement instrumentation within the Photonics Test Lab.
- Drive test automation, standardization, and best practices to improve throughput, repeatability, and cost efficiency.
- Perform in-depth data analysis and provide technical leadership in generating and reviewing test reports, GR&R studies, tester buy-off documentation, and qualification results.
- Lead hands-on troubleshooting, validation, root-cause analysis, and failure analysis using advanced electrical and optical laboratory equipment.
- Serve as a technical authority and mentor to junior engineers and technicians, providing guidance on test design, execution, and data interpretation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, process, manufacturing, quality, and supply-chain teams, as well as external partners, to ensure product readiness and smooth transitions from development to mass production.
- Influence product design for testability (DFT) and contribute to long-term test and technology roadmaps.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Photonics, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical, optical, or optoelectronic testing in R&D and/or manufacturing environments.
- Strong expertise in electrical and optical test equipment, lab instrumentation, and measurement techniques.
- Advanced proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel, JMP, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience with test automation and scripting using Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar languages.
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, solve complex problems, and drive process improvements.
- Experience with FPGA design and development is a strong plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical findings and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
